I had a few belongings. I liked to travel light. It came in handy whenever I needed to leave a place fast.

I boarded my plane with anticipation. I needed a change of scenery. I have been huddled in London for too long, I missed the States.

I had everything arranged back at Lightport. I was going to live in one of those bed and breakfasts. I had emailed the owner, impersonating myself as my own mother. I had explained to her that my job demanded my constant travel and that I wanted to move my daughter to a safe place, while she assumed her studies.

The owner, a middle-aged woman, agreed to house me. I wired her the money and promised to do so every month. I didn't need a big room, just as long as I had my own bathroom. It cost me a little more but that's okay. Xavier has set me up for life.

Leaving the complex, I shared with Mason was bittersweet. I had fulfilled my promise and now it was time I moved on. Thinking of Mason always triggered sadness. I missed him. I missed how things felt when he was around. I had hoped to spend the rest of eternity with him.

As the plane took off, I shook the melancholic thoughts out of my head. I needed the thinking space to prepare myself. Although I looked like a normal teenage girl, I knew that I was set in ways much older than I looked. I envied the carefree kids. Immortality can be morbid at times.

"Would you like something to eat or drink?" the air hostess asked once the plane stabilized.

"Just water please" I said, and she nodded.

Eating and drinking wasn't vital for vampires, but it was necessary at times to blend in. I could eat a little sometimes and could consume any drink. I actually liked coffee. I reminded me of my childhood. Dad would always have a cup of steaming coffee. Little things like that helped me remember how it felt to be human.

Nothing was dangerous as a vampire that forgoes its humanity. I didn't want to be a monster.

I spent most of the time on the plane reading. Now that I was done with my research and Webb 4 was stable, I wanted to kick back and enjoy the normalcy that is life. I missed reading for leisure.

I arrived in Lightport around noon. I took a taxi and drove to Phoebe's B&B. Apparently the place was quite known and I hoped that it wasn't crowded. I liked my solitude.

The drive wasn't long. Lightport was a small town. We reached the B&B within twenty minutes. I paid and thanked the driver as he helped me haul out my small suitcase.

I entered B&B and was surprised at how warm and cozy it looked on the inside. It was snowing in Lightport, so I welcomed how warm the place was. It smelled great too, like something was baking.

"You must be Sage" a woman came to greet me. She looked like she was in her forties, blond hair, green eyes and soft wrinkles. Her laugh lines comforted me that she was a joyful person.

"Yes... are you Mrs. Montgomery?" I asked.

"Call me Phoebe. Aren't you a beauty" she said with a smile.

"Thank you" I replied. I thanked my Mom for her good genes.

"Your mother is not with you?" she asked, as she looked behind me.

"No... she's away travelling at the moment" I said.

"Oh well. Don't worry you won't feel lonely here. I run the place with my husband, Greg who is currently out to get groceries. I had everything planned with your mother, you will be having all your meals with us" she said, trying to reassure the teenage girl that she was safe. The gesture warmed my heart.

When she turned to show me to my room upstairs, I leaned in and took a whiff. Blood spoke to us vampires, and while some used it to prey, I used it to get a better understanding about the person before me.

She smiled nice. She smelled like fresh bread and coffee. The smell pleased me.

I walked upstairs, and she opened the door the farthest in the hallway.

"This is the only room that has a bathroom installed in it. It used to belong to my sister, when she used to live here. She's moved out now, living with her husband in New York. I changed the bedding and removed her stuff. I hope you like it" she said, as she showed me the rather spacious room.

The walls were white, and the ceiling was wooden. The bed was queen sized, with white bedsheets. I was pleased to find a fireplace facing the bed, I'm sure it came in handy in the cold winter. There was a small dressing area, with big white cabinets. The bathroom at the far-left side, was small but it had all the necessities.

"Thank you, this is more than enough for little old me" I said.

"A polite teenager. Now that's something we don't see every day" she beamed. I smiled.

She excused herself and told me that dinner was served every day at 7.

"I had a bite on the plane. I think I'm just going to turn in early today" I told her.

"Okay then. Breakfast is served every day from 7 till 9 in the morning" she said, and with that she bid me goodnight and went downstairs.

I locked the door and finally took a deep breath. I was glad I chose to stay here. Phoebe looked like an okay person. She didn't probe or ask unnecessary questions. I respected that about her.

I quickly shed off my clothes and went inside the bathroom. I was pleased that I had hot water. I stood under hot shower water for a while. It felt good not to be overworked. It felt good to feel free. I was starting to pick up the pieces after I fulfilled my promise to Mason.

"He's in a better place" I whispered under the scorching water. Although some would like to think that vampires were the children of demons, I beg to differ. The good ones couldn't possibly go to hell. Mason was a good man. He treasured the life of humans. That was his sole purpose in creating the stimulant.

I towel dried my body and wore my pajamas. I opened my suitcase and took out the small steel box. I took out the little flute and I drank the stimulant.

Once I felt it's buzz in my system, I went to bed. I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow.
