I woke up around 5 in the morning. I was a light sleeper. I just needed a couple of hours of rest. I could easily go without sleep for a few days, but I found that my senses would be in disarray if I stopped sleeping.
I was starting school today and I was excited. I missed going to class, although I never participated and acted like a wallflower the majority of the year, I still liked how people buzzed around me. To listen to their plans, dreams, and ideas.
Maybe once I graduated, I would go to college. To experience it all again. In the normal order.
I took a quick shower, and then changed into my skinny jeans, a tan wide fit sweater, and white sneakers. I applied minimal makeup. Combed my hair and let it fall down my shoulders. I took a dosage of Webb 4 and then made my way downstairs.
It was still early for breakfast time, but I knew Phoebe would be awake. I would always wake up early and help her around in the kitchen. I liked how she would be making breakfast and telling me stories. She was born and raised here. Met her husband in high school, they've been together ever since. Life was easy for her. Everything planned out. The only thing they missed was the chance to have a child. Greg couldn't give her that, yet she wouldn't even dream about leaving him. She wanted his babies, and if she couldn't then so be it. I just liked how although they were mortal, their love seemed everlasting. Listening to her talking about her husband, who liked to sleep in, made me happy. I didn't think I would find anyone else. It's hard to find a vampire with the same values I had.
"Good morning" I said, once I went inside the kitchen. I was welcomed with the smell of coffee, something baking in the oven, probably her famous banana bread that the people around her went crazy for, and pancakes. She was making the pancakes now, spooning the batter on the pan and waiting for the sides to sizzle.
I was welcomed with one of her warm smiles. Everything about Phoebe was warm, and it was no wonder the townspeople loved her.
"Morning Sage. Did you sleep well?" she asked.
She always asked me that. I liked the routine we had.
"Yes, thank you. Do you need any help?" I asked her.
"Everything is under control. The coffee is ready, help yourself" she said. Her coffee was the best. It kind of reminded me of the way my mother used to roast and brew our coffee.
"Are you excited for the first day of school? I hope you're not nervous, since it's a new school and all" she said.
"Yeah, I am. And no, I'm not nervous. I've grown accustomed to being 'the new girl'" I said.
"Did your Mom call? Is she visiting soon?" she asked, out of the blue. I knew she was concerned that I had arrived here, without a mother.
"Oh... yeah she called me last night. She's somewhere in Germany. Probably soon" I said.
Phoebe nodded. I didn't know if she was convinced, but she respected me enough not to push.
I left the B&B and started walking. Lightport High was basically a fifteen-minute walk away. The weather was rather chilly today and I wrapped a thick scarf around my neck.
I've always preferred the cold. I think, even back when I was human, I liked winter. Working in the fields under the scorching heat wasn't something I liked. Although now that I didn't have to do any labor, I still preferred how the cold wind caressed my cheeks.
Was it because that vampires were relatively cold creatures? After being alive for a couple of centuries, some of the vampires I came across seemed devoid of feeling. I don't know if it was because of the gruesome way we fed, sucking the life out of living beings, or was it because being alone for a long time does that to someone?
