Chapter Nineteen
Simmons' P.O.V.

I found Fitz in our old lab. He was pacing and muttering to himself, but it sounded like he was talking to someone else.

"Fitz?" I asked quietly. He looked at me, looked at something on the counter, and looked back at me.

"Are you really here?"

"Of course, Fitz, who else would it be?"

"Oh. No one." He looked back at the counter with a confused look.

"What are you working on?" I asked, just trying to keep the conversation going, but now he didn't answer.

"Fitz, is everything alright?"

"No, it's not.. it's not... good, okay? You left when I needed help!" Oh. No, he can't possibly think I didn't know that.

"Fitz, I'm sorry, I-"

"Jemma, Coulson said you were going to visit, visit..."

"My mum and my dad..."

"Yes, for a bit, but then you're gone for, for, a long time! Did you give up on me?"

"Of course not, Fitz! You know I care about you!"

"But do you care about me the same way I care about you?" I stood there for a second, silent and blushing. What do I say?

"Um, uh..." His face fell as I stuttered.

"That's, that's what I thought." Fitz said quietly, and he walked out.
