It was in Adelaide's house, pretty big one might I add. Two days before her 18th birthday on April 6

I walked into Party In The U.S.A playing. "What the heck that song is so old. " I said walking to turn in it off, I hated it with so much passion. "Jeez, Elliot you are such a buzz kill,'' Carissa got up from her upside down position on one of the bean bags from Adelaide's room. "Whatever." I brushed off her comment. I walked around the big room with pastel purple walls covered with bookshelves and movie and band posters. "Where's Addie?" I wondered aloud to Carissa. "She's in the upstairs bathroom with Nadia, dying her hair for the big one - eight,", she said while absentmindedly braiding her auburn hair, "Who let you in anyway?", she questioned my entrance.
"Back door," i pointed to its direction. She gave me a questioning look. "How do you know about it?"
" Dont be stupid.", I told her, throwing my self onto Addie's black and red checkered bed sheets. "You think our parents let us go to parties?'
"Oh, well sorry." , she said rolling her eyes at me. "Sooo, Elly-"
"Elliot." I interupted.
"Elliot.", she corrected herself, clearly bothered by my interuption. She continued her sentence, "It's been a while since you told me about Adelaide, and i haven't been in contact with you guys. Did you ask her out?", Carissa was the only one to know, not even my best buddy, Ethan knew. But Carissa squeezed it out of me, so i didn't really 'tell' her if i wasn't willing to in the first place, right?
"Heck no," I answered her question. I knew what was going to come after, like every other conversation that began like this.
"Oh my gosh, Elliot, you have to ask her out."
"What if she says no?", I asked.
"What if she doesn't?"
"How will i know"
"Only on way to find out"
"I'm not risking the embarrassment of rejection."
"Than you'll spend the rest of your life with a plastic surgery addict with two children, and an annoying stepmom who tells you to dye your hair blonde, because she doeen't think boys with blue green eyes and brown hair are suitable for her daughter, wondering 'what if'.", Carissa said, not even attempting to hide her anger.
I sucked my teeth and threw my head back and groaned loudly. "Ughhh you're always right I hate you!"
She flipped her hair and gave a proud grin "Thanks, I get that alot.", she laughed and than i laughed

"You know, Nadia I actually really like this color!" I heard Addie and Nadia walking down the steps
"Thanks, I was going for a Hayley Williams look."

I heard the door knob rattling, signaling Addie and Nadia's arrival.
"Elliot!" Addie shrieked, running towards me.
I widened my arms out to embrace the red head that was coming towards me.
She hugged me tightly and a bit longer than I expected. When she detached her body from mine I ruffled her hair
"I like it," I stated. "Looks good on you."

I swear i think I saw her blush "Thanks." She bended her knees like always when she accepts compliments.
"Move Cari." she demanded
"As you wish birthday girl." Carissa stated sarcastically getting up and went straight to Adelaide's bed lying on her stomach and she got out her phone and slipped away into oblivion from the rest of us.
Adelaide began to act like the child she is
"Hey, Nadia, Elliot"
"Hm?" Nadia replied
"Guess what's today??" She cheekily smiled. Nadia hanged her head and closed her hazel eyes shut. "No, not this Addie." she warned.
"Okay fine," Adelaide pouted. "Who's gonna help me decoraaate?" Adelaide said while picking at her nails and elongating the 'a'.
"Your love, Ellie will." Nadia teased. "Shut up, Mason." , she addressed Nadia by her last name, sounding all formal.
"Okay, sorry babe. I'll help you," , Nadia apologized and got up from her seat on the floor, beside Adelaide's bed. "Elliot, you helping?", she questioned me.
"Yeah," I nodded "Cari, how about you?" She ignored my existence. "Hellooo??" I waved my hand in her face. She shooed me away, while still emerged on her phone. "Someone, help me." I gestured to my situation.
Nadia, the crazy one went and took Carissa's phone and ran,
"GET BACK HERE MASON!" Carissa shrieked, and ran after Nadia, leaving Adelaide & I in fits of laughter

"What should I paint?" I asked Addie
"Just my name, and do the artsy stuff you do." she replied dismissively while stapling banners to her living room wall
"Draw a penis for the A." Ethan snickered.
"Act like you're a senior in high school please, not a sixth grader." Nadia insulted Ethan.
"Shut up." Ethan flicked paint from his fingers at her. Nadia retaliated by smacking him upside the head. I grabbed one of the pencils near me and threw at them, hitting Ethan directly.
"Hey, dude what the hell!" Ethan exclaimed while rubbing his head where the pencil had hit him.
"Wimp, it wasn't even that bad." Cooper insulted.
"Well see how you like it." Ethan grabbed the pencil throwing it at Cooper
"Can you guys stop acting like 5 year olds?" Nadia was starting to get agitated with their behavior. "Jesus Christ." she sighed heavily, proceeding with blowing balloons with Carissa.
"Whatever." Ethan scoffed
"Go be useful, you two and buy more balloons, we're running out." Addie demanded
"No-" Cooper started
"Its my birthday. Now go." she closed the argument
"You're turning eighteen, you shouldn't need this absurd amount of balloons." Ethan complained.

"Hey Elliot, come help me with these!" I heard Nadia call me from the garage, which wasn't far from the living room we were in. "Okay!" I shouted back, coming down from the ladder, from hanging the balloons. "Make sure not to do anything." Ethan snickered.
"We're not all hornÿ teenagers like you.", I rolled my eyes.
++++
"You don't even need help." I walked into the garage, noticing.
"Yeah, I know.", she nodded confidently. "Sooo, Cari told me."
I stood there, staring wide eyed. "What do you mean?" I furrowed my eyebrows, hoping it wasn't what I though.
"That you like Addie." she brushed off. She walked closer to me. "And she told me that she told you to ask her out on her birthday."
"Yeah, okay I like her. But I'm not."
"Yeah I know, you're doing it today." she walked out the garage, and I followed. "Haha, no way."
"Actually yes. "Addie! Come here now!" she shouted to Adelaide. "Okay!" i heard her muffled shout. I heard the front door open and Nadia and I turned our heads to face Adelaide walking towards us. Tightening her pony tail, she asked, "What's up?"
"Elliot, here has something to say." she cocked her head to me. I hanged my head to hide the blush. Even though she probably couldn't see me due to the dim garage lights.
Nadia walked away, and Adelaide came closer to me. "What's up Elliot?", she said, giving me a smile.
My heart was beating, and I started getting nervous. But I couldn't back down. I did what my mom always tells me to do when facing my fears.
I took a deep breath and just did it
"I like you." I hanged my head and itched the back of neck, and nervously smiled. "If the feelings aren't mutual, I-I understand, we can just g-go on and forget o-o-or just cut all ties, whatever makes you f--"
"I like you too.", she cut me off. She looked at me blushing wildly. I stared wide eyed at her, completely startled by her response. "Wow."
What an idiot. 'Wow'? I didn't believe myself. "So, like. What do we do?".
I was utterly confused and not prepared for this.
"We see where we go at this point. Make a date, see if it goes well, and go on others annnd we see where the futer takes us!", she gave me a wide smile and hugged me. and than we walked into the house.
