Mara POV

*September 3 2014*

"Oakley this clumsiness of mine is getting out of hand!" I ranted to Oakley at her locker. I just finished telling her about my encounter with Landon. After I bumped into him I apologised to him and he simply laughed and said "It's fine Mara." And then one of his basketball buddies called him over and that was that.

My friend just stood there laughing at me until I said "I have to go make some sign-up sheets to put around the school."

"For what?" Oakley asked me, "Since Keegan McFadden graduated last year we no longer have anyone at the newspaper to cover sports, and if we can't find anyone to do it, I, as editor, will have to take over." I answered backing away.

Ten minutes later, I stood in the copy room with my newly printed poster, waiting to use the only copy machine, but unfortunately it was Logan Bell in front of me. Logan was a senior, like me, and he was the type of guy who likes to annoy people for no apparent reason. He was not very nice, but held a lot of power in the school. He was student body president last year, and most likely this year also. How did he get elected? He promised better cafeteria food, and more pep rallies.

"Need to use the copier?" He said while smirking at me. "Yes, Logan I do." I replied. "Okay, but it'll go a lot faster if you say yes to coming to my party tomorrow night." He said. Logan threw three huge parties a year. The "first party of the year" party, then one right before spring break, and another after exams finally end. Why is he trying to get me to go? Because the entire student body gets a copy of the Shield prep newspaper, and he has been talking to me since last year to get an article on himself to get people to re-elect him. I refused him because I don't think it would be fair to any of the other candidates, and for some reason he thinks that inviting me these parties would work as some sort of bribe.

"Logan the party scene isn't really mine, plus I really don't think that I should attend based on you thinking that these invites are suddenly going to make think that giving you an article a good idea." I replied. "Oh Mara, how you judge me." He said while putting a hand to his heart.  "For you, maybe I won't mention to your mom that you were being mean to me at the next big dinner." He said, his shocking blue eyes shimmering and a smirk forming on his lips. Did I mention that Logans and my mom have been best friends since they attended Shield prep twenty years ago, so our families are really close; therefore, Logan and I basically grew up together, and he irritates me the same as he did  when we were five. "Whatever, bye Logan!" I wave dramatically before leaving. Copying these can wait until tomorrow.

"Mara!" I heard a voice call from behind me. I turn to see Patrice, or Gwen she likes to go by (her middle name) running towards me. Gwen is mine and Oakley's friend. "Hey Gwen, how's your fist day going?" "Amazing all the guys at your school are so cute!" Gwen went to school in North Chester until her mom built a house here in Shield and now she goes here. Oakley and I met her because she used to come into town to babysit Oakley's sister, Willow, when Oakley couldn't.

"Yeah, they are." I agreed, and she said "Can you tell about that guy Jaden? I sit beside him in Geography, and he is crazy cute!" she gushed. "The only Jaden we have in our year is Jaden Mosby?"  "Yeah, that's him!" she said. Jaden is another Shielder, and is on the basketball team. He's Landon's best friend, but unlike the other players on the team, he was quiet and kept mostly to himself. After I told her this she just said "Oh, I dated a basketball player once, not going down that road again!" she said with a shrug.

We walked over to my locker where Oakley was already waiting. "Shall we head to English?" she said with a smile. "We shall!" I said, and Gwen laughed then linked her arms with ours, and we all walked to English class.
