"Anyway," Mr Aizawa sighed as he took out a mostly blue uniform with white and red designs. It was completely different from the formal-looking uniform we currently had on. "Everyone put this on and head outside." Everyone stared at the suit, wondering what it was. Soon, we changed into the uniform and followed Mr Aizawa out into some field. There, he told us about a Quirk Assessment Test that was going to happen now. He also mentioned how we never got to use our quirks in physical exams.
He called Bakugou out and asked what his farthest softball distance throw was when he was in junior high. Bakugou replied with '67 meters'. When Mr Aizawa got him to use his quirk, however, that number increased to 705.2 meters. Incredible. Mr Aizawa told us that we will have to compete against each other in a number of physical tests. "Whoever comes in last will be expelled immediately," he told us with a smile. Everyone froze and let out a sound of shock. Expelled? We just got here! How can he just expel us on the first day? Meanwhile, I started to think about how I could even use my fire-breathing quirk on the tests.
First test: 50-meter dash. How the hell do I use fire breathing to make me travel distances? I thought about it for a while before gathering up the courage to walk towards the area. I breathed in and breathed out before breathing back in and holding my breath. "Runners on your marks! Ready!" Then a gunshot was heard. I turned behind me, jumped and breathed out fire. The hot gases propelled and forced me towards the finish line. My foot touched the ground mid-way and I had to push myself back to reach the white line on the yellow-ish ground. "5.38 seconds!"
I fell to the ground and I was on my hands and knees. Every breath I took irritated my throat, the same burning sensation was felt whenever I used my quirk too much. I stood up and dusted myself off and watched the next batch of students. Their timings were not bad, some even scored very well. Next, it was Izuku and Bakugou. Bakugou's time was 4.13 seconds and Izuku's time was 7.02 seconds. I narrowed my eyes during their test. Izuku did not even use a bit of his quirk. I wonder what was up with that. 'Why doesn't he use the strength he showed off at the entrance exam?' I wondered.
All the tests were fine until the fifth test. Everyone had at least one really good score on the tests. The fifth test was a ball throw. The girl with the zero gravity quirk was unbelievable! She got 'infinity'! We will definitely not be seeing that same ball any time soon. Next up was Izuku. I kept my eye on him, he has to use his quirk at least once. But we've all seen him in the entrance exam. His body literally broke. It can't handle his own quirk. Does that happen when you're a really late bloomer? Your body can't handle a quirk because it's not used to it?
He gripped the ball tightly before preparing to throw it. Before he could even throw it, Mr Aizawa's hair and his scarf started to float around him. Izuku threw the ball and got 46 meters? I diverted my attention to our homeroom teacher. What did he do to him? My cousin looked very confused as he looked at Mr Aizawa in shock. Mr Aizawa explained that he erased Izuku's quirk. Wasting no time, he pulled the boy in closer to him using his scarf and told him things the rest of us couldn't hear. After a while, our teacher returned his quirk and walked away from my cousin. What the hell?
Izuku threw the ball, giving his all. The throw caused some wind to blow onto our faces. Leaves and sand flew into the air. In the end, he got 705.3 meters. And the cost of that? One broken index finger.
Despite it being a huge improvement, his body still couldn't handle his quirk, though. Weird. I looked over at Bakugou who was in shock, his mouth was wide open as well as his eyes. Knowing him for most of my childhood, I knew he was going to do something. Sparks started to show up in his palm. I had to stop him. "Bakugou!" I exclaimed. He was slightly startled and looked at me in fury.
"What the hell, Nensho?!" He yelled. "You knew that damned Deku! He didn't have a quirk when we were kids. Can't you see? He hasn't been telling us what his damned quirk is!" He formed his hand into a fist, a shaking one too.
"Don't do anything rash, you ticking time bomb!" I scolded him. "Yes, I knew Izuku since we were children. He's been quirkless, Aunt Inko told me. Other than him, I also knew you since then as well. You have this look on your eyes whenever you're about to do something stupid, you fool." Bakugou growled at me and stayed put. I swear I also heard him curse at me under his breath. "I heard that, you spiky-haired idiot!"
"Shut your face up!"
After a long day of taking the tests, I placed 14 out of 21. For Izuku? Last place, poor guy, looks like he's going home. I was about to say it was inevitable but at the same time, it didn't seem right. He just revealed his quirk to us all and he can't seem to control it like it was too strong. I shook my head, trying to get the thought out of my mind as I looked at the name above mine - Tsuyu Asui. I turned my head left and right, scanning the people around me. I wonder who could that be. She seems cool. "Are you (Y/N) Midoriya?" I heard a cute voice as I felt someone tap my shoulder from behind. Confused, I turned around to see a short girl with long, green straight hair with black, round eyes. She had large hands and her appearance was frog-like.
I fully turned my body towards her and smiled nervously. "Y-Yeah, how do you know that?" I asked her.
She smiled at me with closed eyes. How cute. "I'm Tsuyu Asui, it's nice to meet you. I heard your first name when Midoriya called out to you." We shook hands and spoke for a while before Mr Aizawa spoke to our now silent class.
"And I was lying, no one's going home," he said casually with a rather creepy smile, which made the whole class freeze. W-What the hell? He was lying the whole time? Was this just to trick us into doing our best? "That was just a rational deception to make sure you gave it your all at the tests." Everyone was either shocked or relieved.
A girl with her black hair in a spiky ponytail spoke up and said that she should have told us that it was all a lie. Some students stared at her in disappointment. I bet Izuku's feeling very relieved though. I turned to him and just a wave of relief yet slight betrayal went over him.
I walked over to him and asked if he was feeling alright. He just smiled and nodded at me while giving a thumbs up. "Despite being cousins, you two look nothing alike," Asui pointed out from behind me. We looked at her with a slightly surprised expression. "Sorry, I have a habit of speaking my mind."
"O-Oh, uh, it's alright, Asui." I chuckled at her comment. We've heard the same thing many times before from different people. At this point, we got used to it.
"Please, call me Tsu, Midoriya," she corrected me. I nodded and grinned at her, taking note of calling her that name.
