Denial.
Was this what Patton had felt the entire time? It wasn't Deceit's influences? Just Denial? The Moral side could feel himself tensing up at the sight. Truly, he wasn't terrified by this figure. He wasn't afraid of 'his' denial.
"Wait- Are you apart of Thomas, too? Is he in-"
"No, Patton." Denial told him, shaking his head with a simple laugh. "I don't affect your host. Just you. I'm apart of you. I'm your personal dark side. The side you always use when you're afraid to lie. Instead of lying, you deny. It's a marvellous technique, I can assure you of that."
Was that a lie, too? Or was that just his 'side' denying his own thoughts? Patton was so confused, yet he couldn't seem to understand the situation. Or follow it at this case. "Are you here to help me..?"
"Of course." Denial stated with a nod, "You wish to be honest. But you're afraid they won't help you."
Patton gulped at that. It was true. He did want to be honest, but he couldn't allow them to worry. He couldn't allow them to push away their own problems to deal with his. Being the heart was a ton load of work.
"I'm afraid they would worry too much.." He admitted, glancing up towards the look-alike. Denial gave a nod, kneeling down in front of the Moral side.
"Allow me to help you, Morality. After all. It's what I'm here for. Listen to me," He tapped Patton's head. "And that little liar will no longer be your problem. But, on one condition."
"What..?"
"Nobody should know about me. I'm someone they do not want to meet."
"Why not?"
Denial frowned. "I'm considered a.. neutral persona. Denial can be a good thing, but it has it's negative sides. You can deny the good feelings, which will allow you to tell the truth if you are feeling bad. Or, you can deny the bad feelings - like what you're doing now. That's considered a lie, therefore Deceit has become a bigger issue for you."
Patton listened to his reasoning before fiddling with the hoodie around his shoulders. Maybe this was a good person. This.. denial. His denial. The wonders of not lying, but just keeping a few things hidden.
"What if the others confuse my denying words for lying?" He soon asked, raising a brow.
"A lot of people do confuse denial for lying. There are all sorts of ways to show denying as not deceiving."
"Can you show me?" Patton asked. For the first time, there was a genuine twinkle in his eyes. Full of hope. Full of glee. Maybe there was a way to rekindle back his happiness.
"No."
Idea failed.
"I cannot show you. You have to find it yourself."
"But you said-"
"I know what I said. I have boundaries too, Patton. I can't help you with everything. You have to help yourself. You have to accept me, allow me to take the wheel. The more self control I have, the easier the denied comments will slip out."
That was all he needed. No more lies. No more deceiving. He really thought that Deceit would be with him the whole way through. But now he had protection.
Or, so he thought.
"Okay."
"Okay?" Denial asked.
"I'll accept whatever help you can give me. Do you.. do you have a name? Other then Denial?"
He shook his head. "Denial is my default name. It's what I represent. I do not have a name like how yours is Patton."
