Taehyung and Namjoon were fed up of their father bossing them around.
Namjoon was in high school now, and Taehyung in middle school. Their father treated them like trash, but when there was need for some innocent faces, he would treat them as if they were his princes.
Over the years, Taehyung had gotten used to this, but Namjoon despised their father to his very core. He didn't want his little brother to he involved in the business of drug and arms dealing.
He had vowed to himself, since the day his father had forced him to do a drug run at the age of 10, that he wouldn't allow Taehyung to be dragged down with their father and him.
The only escape Namjoon had from the darkness of his father's wrongdoings was when he was in school.  The 6 hours of school where he met with Jin, were the happiest times of his days.
Namjoon realised he was gay, when he met Jin and found that he was interested in him in ways that boys were normally interested in girls. But the attraction between both males started out in a very different way.
They both were unathletic and would flap around the court in gym class. Their relationship started out as friends and blossomed when Namjoon confessed his feelings to Jin and Jin reciprocated rather openly.
Jin was never one to be shy about skinship in public. Jin made Namjoon act like a very different person. And Namjoon like that person more.
At home, when he was doing his homework, Taehyung found him smiling to himself and asked him if there was a certain someone behind it. Namjoon told him about Jin. Taehyung was super happy for his older brother. He told Namjoon, that he wanted a relationship too, if there was someone as cool as he made Jin sound.
Namjoon laughed and patted Taehyung's head.
Taehyung had always admired his brother. He would even go as far and say that he was envious of Namjoon. Their father paid more attention to Namjoon, to train him to be the next leader. While Taehyung's role was only to sit and look pretty.
He wanted to get down and dirty and earn the respect his brother got. He wanted to prove that he was not just a pretty face, but had the brains to handle the business as well.
When Namjoon turned 17, an undercover cop killed their father. Being underage, the mantle of the leader was passed on their uncle, who was too cruel and vicious. He didnt care much for the people, than the profit to be gained from business. A lot of losses happened too fast for anyone to handle.
There was a rift withing the members of the gang. Some supported Namjoon, the legitimate leader, but still underage. Majority of the gang, though, supported Sejin. And thus, Sejin remained at the throne.
Time passed. Jin and Namjoon became closer. Taehyung got older. Even when Namjoon became 21, Sejin wouldn't give up his position. It did not sit well with them, but there was nothing they could do to control it.
Slowly, Namjoon pulled people on his side. Sejin noticed the balance of forces shifting to the other side. He couldn't let that happen.
He knew that Namjoon cared for Jin. And Jin was a softie who cared for a ton of people. So he played the dirty card and got Yoongi, (Jin's roommate in college) and Jin kidnapped.
Namjoon went hysterical. He lost his mind when he got to know that Jin was kidnapped.
3 weeks of unending search later, Jin was found starved, dehydrated and battered near his dormitory.
A random unmarked car was seen leaving the scene. Jin was unconscious for 2 days. Yoongi was still missing.
When Jin came to, he told Namjoon that the people behind his kidnapping had given him a choice. Either he could choose Namjoon, or the safe return of his friend.
Namjoon couldn't bear the sadness in Jin's eyes and realised that his greed for leadership had made things this bad. Namjoon told Jin that he had already been planning on breaking up with him. That their relationship was just a fling. He was never serious about Jin and they could never have a future together.
Jin broke apart on the hospital bed, begging Namjoon to take back his harsh words, reaching for him, I.V tubes still dangling from his arm and watched Namjoon turn and leave him for good.
Yoongi returned, unharmed, a day later.
Namjoon gave up his fight for the leadership and started following orders without a fault.
Sejin addressed him then, as 'The chained dog'.
