"good morning mommy!"
eddie's pre-pubescent voice woke up his older sister from her nightmare infested slumber. evangeline huffed as she was abruptly removed from her blood-soaked dreams. as she sat up, she could hear eddie jogging down the stairs as her mother warns him not to run inside as he could trip and fall.evangeline sauntered into the bathroom, the floor and mirror already covered in a sheen of steam from eddie. she turned only the hot tap and immediately stepped in, not caring about the temperature in the least bit. her mind was preoccupied about her first day at derry high school. her first day at real school. she could still barely fathom the amount of new flesh and brains she would have access to, to manipulate, to hurt.
her stomach bubbled in excitement, one of the few times it ever has as she looked at herself naked in the mirror. years of meticulous planning, research, trial and error has finally lead up to the reflection she saw. perfect in every sense.
soft, silky skin.
plump, red lips.
toned and defined in all the right places.
everything was in the right place.
'how could anyone resist this' she thought to herself, biting her lip at her reflection as she thought so.laid out on her armoire chair was a lemon yellow linen dress, reaching just above her knees. it was absent of creases and blemishes, perfect in every way. a pair of crisp, white underwear and socks sat underneath the dress, and once evangeline had donned her outfit, she put a little golden cross on a little golden chain around her neck, courtesy of her grandparents one christmas. she slipped her feet into a pair of glossy white mary janes and grabbed a cream coloured cardigan from her coat rack. she stared at herself once more in a full length mirror. she flashed herself her famous doe eyes, batting her eyelashes a few times before her face fell completely flat, devoid of any emotion whatsoever.
she skipped downstairs to see her mother and brother sitting at their respective spots at the dining table.
"good morning mommy, eddie" she chirped as she took her seat opposite her brother.
"now you're sure you're gonna be okay at school evangeline? you know, i've been having second thought-"
"mommy, i promise i'll be okay. i have eddie close by, and all his friends. i'm the eldest, i should be the one looking after him!" she giggled, buttering a piece of grain toast.
"well, you have all the numbers you might need in your book, please call me the second anything happens sweetheart, i don't want my baby girl-"
"i promise mommy" she says, looking deep into her mothers eyes with a facade of sweetness and bravery.
"alright sweetpea. and i'll be at school at 3 sharp to pick you and eddie up" she warns, eyebrows raised.
"but mom, i'm going to the arcade after school with richie and bill and stanley-"
"and when were you going to tell me this?" sonia presses, putting down her cup of dandelion tea.
"i'm sorry mommy, it just slip-"
"i'll walk him there after school mom, it's on the way back here and it's such a lovely day outside" evangeline interrupts eddie, not able to deal with anymore helicopter parenting that morning. her mother says nothing, but raises her eyebrows once more at the brunette.
"i'll be fine. i have my pepper spray and some quarters in case i need to phone you. i'll be home by four." she suggests.
"i guess so." sonia mumbles, standing up to grab her children's packed lunches.
"you're welcome eddie spaghetti" evangeline mumbled to her brother across the table. eddie laughed and rolled his eyes at the nickname.the walk to derry high school was exactly how you'd expect. a sunny morning, august breeze blowing the odd leaf out of the balsam fir trees that lined the streets.
"are you excited for your first day of school jelly?" eddie asked, stepping softly in time with his older sister.
"i suppose so" she replied, 'absentmindedly' fiddling with her cross, getting her into the mindset of the innocent schoolgirl she 'was'.
"i'm a little nervous but i'm sure i'll meet some nice friends. i'm excited to learn"
"don't let richie hear that, you'll never hear the end of it"evangeline couldn't be less interested in eddies yapping about his little crew. they were too young to be of any real use to her and too close to her family to brush off any suspicion surrounding her less they go missing.
as the kaspbrak duo entered the school, the halls' usual noise simmered down to whispers about the new girl. evangeline kept her head down, but her eyes up, making sure every last student saw her innocent glow. before eddie could draw breath, she was whisked away to the girls bathroom by a pink clawed hand belonging to gretta keene - derry high school's resident mean girl.
as evangeline walked into the school, all gretta could see was the giant green monster of jealousy looming over the girl. her natural beauty and perfect body was enough alone to make gretta act."who the fuck are you?" the girl spat, a few droplets of saliva landing on evangeline's clean face.
"i-i'm evangeline kaspbrak, it's my first day"
her reply was met with snickers and giggles from the group.
"you mean you're that dweeb's sister?"
"y-yeah, i've been homeschooled until now"
"doesn't surprise me your freak of a mother had another little shit all cooped up in the attic all these years." gretta sneered.
"i-i'm not tryin-"
"watch your mouth bitch. this school - it's mine. these sheep? they're mine. these boys? they're. mine."
all evangeline could think about behind her anxious facade was how ugly and unflattering gretta's shirt was. as evangeline added the bully to the top of her mental list, the bathroom door swung open. a blonde girl entered confidently.
"you're evangeline, right?" she asked politely.
"th-that's me" evangeline smiled slightly.
"come with me" she gently grabbed evangeline's arm.
"this one's mine gretta" the small blonde retorted as she pulled herself and evangeline out of the bathroom.the next bitch to touch me gets their hand in a blender in home ec.
