meanwhile...
eddie and evangeline had spent the remainder of their morning in the schoolyard under it's large oak tree. to the objections of eddie and his allergies, evangeline picked weeds and flowers and stored them in the skirt of her dress to make a flower crown, which ultimately lead nowhere as the siblings grew bored. all the while, she was plotting and scheming, grasping for more additional steps to make her plan all the more delicious and long lasting. to make him wait. to make it ache.
and then she got it.
evangeline stood abruptly, startling her little brother beside her on the grass.
"what up? what's wrong?" eddie pestered, immediately anxious and confused.
"i got an idea" jelly smirked, "race you to the top of the tree!" she teased, knowing eddie wouldn't - and couldn't - climb it. she dashed around to it's other side, peeking behind each shoulder to ensure her coast was clear. she smirked in excitement. she placed one foot on it's trunk, then the other, and hauled herself up into the centre of the tree. once there, her eyes quickly scoured for a sharp branch. her eyes met with a thorn-like stick, and grabbing it, she continued up the tree. she had managed to find a branch looming over the top of her brother, able to see his greasy brunette hair from a birds eye view, and how anxious his demeanour was.
"up here silly!" she teased, chuckling in "fake" mockery. as eddie looked up and around, still focussing on finding her hidden amongst the leaves - it was her time to strike. she grabbed the twig in her hand and stabbed it roughly into her palm, yelping in fake pain, her pupils dilating in true pleasure. in a flash, she fell from the tree (on purpose, of course, but not to anyone else's knowledge) with a grunt."JELLY!" eddie screamed, immediately kneeling at the side of his 'wounded' sister. jelly sat up, acting as dumbfounded and dazed as she could, gazing around to make sure there were several onlookers, before she raised her hand and whimpered in mock surprise at the twig sticking out from the centre of her palm.
"oh JESUS. OH FUCK. OH jesus CHRIST fuck mommys gonna kill me. mommys gonna kill you!" eddie stuttered, frantically searching for a teacher, an adult, anyone who could help his poor, injured sister.
"it's okay eddie, i'm alright. i'll just..." evangeline whimpered, pretending to prepare herself for the excruciating pain. she took hold of the twig, took a deep breath for effect, and yanked the stick out of her palm, the first inch of it covered in crimson. the wound seeped with fresh blood as she shakily stood, pressing the skirt of her white dress against her palm to stop the blood flow, and calmly asked her brother to escort her to the nurse's office.now of course, what evangeline had in mind is that the wound was deep enough, and the fall was far enough for her to lay down in the nurse's office for a period or so. just enough to let patrick sit and stew. not enough to have to call her erratic mother and ruin the entire plan however. the hour she spend in the nurse's office was near bliss - fantasising about the thoughts, the uncertainty, the second guessing that would be swirling around that demon boy's raven haired head.
she looked to the clock, 2 minutes before the bell rang, and slowly rose from her cot.
"miss? i feel much better after some water and a lay down. i might try to go to my next class, i don't want to miss any assignments." she battered her eyelids to the nurse, holding the bandage around her hand. the nurse thought for a moment, gave the girl a couple of tylenol for later and sent her on her way. slowly evangeline left the nurse's office into the empty hallway, sighing in relief in realisation she had a few moments to prepare. she waltzed to her locker to smooth her hair, practice her pout and ensure she looked perfect.and then the bell rang.
slowly, she sauntered towards the homeroom door, hoping to pass it as hockstetter left the classroom. and just like clockwork, a few long seconds after the last kid emerged, there he was. ears red, fists clenched and ready to kill, just like she dreamed. she looked up at him from underneath her eyelashes and shot him the biggest, most demonic, shit eating grin you've ever seen.
