the next day was similar to the first. evangeline continued sucking up to her new friends, finding their good girl status useful to protect her innocent facade. during the first few hours, her mind kept lingering on the green ruler patrick had orally assaulted at her the previous afternoon. she noticed how tightly he gripped it, and the fact that although he didn't have a bag, it was important enough to him to carry it around in his pocket. once again, patrick was seen fiddling with it in the first 2 periods of the day, though as she slipped from maths to english, she watched him put it in his locker before stomping out of the hall.

"excuse me miss" she called out softly 15 minutes into her class. the teacher turned from the chalkboard and looked at the girl over her thin glasses.

"yes dear?" the teacher responded, placing down the chalk.

"may i please use the bathroom?" she asked, sounding as sweet as possible. she knew this worked for the female teachers, not being able to resist the new teachers pet.

"alright evangeline, please be quick."
the teacher resumed her prattle.

evangeline thanked the teacher and slipped out of the classroom, not making a beeline to the bathroom, but to patrick's locker. she removed a bobby pin from her hair, and a safety pin from her pocket, and started her hack into his locker. with much ease (after much practice) the locked clicked open and her eyes widened in excitement, giggling as she stored the pins in between her teeth for safekeeping. she immediately picked up the ruler, noting the bite marks on the corners and 'property of patrick.h' scribbled along the bottom. she placed it down exactly where it was, and next picked up a black, fabric pencil case, immediately noticing how light it was. she peered around her shoulders, ensuring the coast stayed clear, before succumbing to her impulses and zipping it open. what was inside made evangeline chuckle in dark delight.

flies of all sizes and stages of decay filled the small bag, along with a few other winged insects. evangeline gently stroked the wing of a dragonfly, enjoying the slight shine they possessed.

what a fucking freak. evangeline thought. this was all the confirmation she needed to know, without a doubt in her diabolical mind that this was the right target.

she placed everything in it's rightful place and closed the lock, leaving the locker looking virtually untouched - which to patrick's knowledge, it was.

evangeline was hardly present for the remainder of the day, her mind swirling with excitement and images of the possible outcomes of her little game, anticipating and savouring the thought of each and every one. as the bell rung, she raced to the bathroom to hide out until the coast was clear, having no time or patience for her friends or brother that afternoon. she sat in a bathroom stall, pulling out a pack of cigarettes, a lighter, a ball point pen and a white bag which was padlocked closed. after unlocking it with the key around her neck, she pulled out a small, leather-bound book. inside were drawings of murder, blood, suicide. some of the pages covered in names, written hundreds and thousands of times. others, stained with drops of blood, her's and others'. she turned to a fresh page and began to draw the raven haired boy. a stake was drawn in his chest, a noose around his neck, a knife at his throat and his entrails splayed along the floor below his hanging body. evangeline wasn't an artists but it was enough to make her silently chuckle in delight and enough to make anyone else's stomach flip. by the time she finished her cigarette, the page was covered in his name, written over and over and over again, the pen pressed so hard into the page it tore in several places.

just like someone had flipped a switch, her face dropped. she flicked her cigarette into the toilet below her, packed up her things and left the stall in an eerily robotic manner. the hall was desolate by now, so evangeline quickly shuffled down the hall devoid of any of her 'usual' emotions, personality or feminine wiles. as she left the school, she donned a slight smile and a swing of her hips in case of onlookers, but continued her bloody daydream as she started her route to the school supplies store, across the road from keene's pharmacy.

the school supplies store was filled with dozens of brands and makes of pencils, pens and markers. unlike previous visits, she skipped her favourite aisle, arts and crafts, which featured a large wall of scissors and stanley knives. at last, her eyes found the exact item she was looking for.

a green, plastic, schooltime ruler.

she palmed it, along with a cheap black marker and a shiny new pair of gold fabric scissors, not being able to resist it's virgin blades and sharpened point. she pocketed the scissors and placed the ruler and marker on the counter.

"good afternoon miss kaspbrak!" the attendant greeted her, knowing her face all too well, though usually it was bare, sweaty and moaning in the back of a supply closet.

"good afternoon mr murphy!" she chirped.

"please, call me kevin"

"sorry mr murphy..." she giggled, ignoring his instruction to egg him on further.

"just these please!"

after the batting of her eyelashes, evangeline exited the building as quickly as possible, not being able to stand another moment around the man without the promise of sexual favours.

evangeline skipped the majority of the way home, softly singing a church hymn as she did. the excitement was now fully present in her stomach, graduated from a bubble to a full on boil.

one more sleep until the fun begins.
