Under the Moon

Prologue

"What have you done?" the headmaster bellowed, all eyes turned to me as he stood over the lifeless body on the playground.
Oh no. This wasn't supposed to happen. They all think I did it.
"Evangeline! Answer me now!" Headmaster Torrin growled through gritted teeth.

I flinched back, cowering behind my curtain of dark hair. Maybe if I just explained? No then that would mean revealing my secret and I couldn't do that to her. It would mean revealing that the supernatural creatures, us Mortals feared and "got rid of" are still alive. It would mean they would find out I'm not one of their so called Mortals either

I squared my shoulders and took a deep breath. The only way to fix this is to take the blame. Hopefully they'll be lenient to an orphaned seven-year old with a dark secret.

"I-I did-" a sudden howl ripped through my words. No, what was she doing? I thought fear gripping painfully in my stomach. All eyes turned to the woods behind the playground. The children surged toward the metal chain link fence separating the school from the dark woods.

Headmaster Torrin's eyes widened, "That's impossible," he whispered fearfully. Another howl sounded and this time there was no mistaking it. It was a werewolf. There was a distinct difference between a regular wolf and a werewolves howl.

He whirled around barking at the teachers who had come outside to get the children inside the brick building we called school. I used the chaos as a distraction darting around frantic teachers and excited but scared students. Something yanked me back and I crashed into Headmaster Torrin. He had grabbed my wrist and was pulling me toward the school.

"You are coming with me until I figure out what happened," he growled

I couldn't let him take me I had to get back to her! A powerful surge swept through me and Headmaster Torrin was flung backward onto the wet grass.
