Paper Rings

The moon is high, just like you on the first meet with him.
The wine is cold, just like him when you don't remember anything about him once you sober in the morning.
Cat and mouse for a month or two or three.
Never expect that it's finally your third anniversary with-

"Taehyungie, what took you so long in the bathroom. Are you okay?" you asked once he finally back to his seat.

He keep sweating and biting his nails after both of you finish the meal. You were worried if he feel sick or something.

"Should we go home now? You'll get to rest better. Or should we drop by the hospital? Maybe you ate something wrong?" You keep came out with more guess but Taehyung just keep shaking his head and avoiding your gaze.

"Taehyung, talk to me. You're doing nothing but making me worried."

"I'm feeling fine. Really. It's our anniversary, let's stay here a little bit longer. They have a great view in the balcony, let's go there." He finally look up and flash you his adorable smile.

"It doesn't matter how great the view is. If you're in pain or uncomfortable, don't count me in." you refuse his idea and still concerning about him more.

"N-No. I'm really okay, baby bear. I was just-" He left his sentences hanging and hung his head low.

"Just-? What?" You tilt your head, confuse at his new attitude on you.

"I'm nervous, baby bear." He finally looked up with shy smile and you notice that his ears turned red too. He's right, he's only acting like this when he's shy or nervous. But what makes him nervous at this moment?

"Nervous for what?"

"Follow me." without hesitant, he grabbed your hand gently and pull you to the balcony.

You were about to question him again but the view distract you a lot. The nightview is always your favorite. The way those dazzling lights shining so brightly, as if they're dancing to each other. It's your weakness and this man beside you know how much you love it.

"Look up to the sky too, baby bear. The moon and the stars are going to be the witness for this." He whisper softly as you glance at the dark sky almost instantly.

It's magical.

"Witness for wh-" your jaw dropped as you turned around only to find Taehyung kneeling in front of you, holding a small crystal box with a shiny diamond ring on it.

"I know how much you love those dazzling lights on the building and road at night like this. You never know but your eyes sparkling beautifully when you stare at the twinkling stars on the night sky. You said my eyes shining too whenever I look at you, that's because whenever I saw you, I feel the sparks baby bear. I feel sick to my stomach after I finished my food because I was thinking about this, about your answer. So please give me an answer baby bear, I'm worried if I will do another 1 hour speech if you didn't tell me anything." His confession was indeed caught you off guard but the change of his facial expression and the way he whines, those were things that you live for.

"But what should I say? You don't ask for anything." you inhales a bit and wipe away your happiness tears, still can't hide the smile that he caused.

"Oh! Right! You're so stupid, Kim Taehyung." He mumbles to himself before look up to you again with those puppy eyes and you were curious about what he's gonna say. "You won't say no to me, right? I know you love this shiny little things. Marry me."

"I like shiny things but I'd marry you with paper rings, Kim Taehyung." you cried in happiness and suddenly a thought hit his mind.

He quickly stood up and widened his already-big eyes.

"W-Wait a minute. T-That line sound so familiar to me. A-Are you-...." He was stuttering hard and the flashback play in his mind.

17 years ago, back then in his hometown.

He has this one childhood friend that always play with him. He like her so much and even though they doesn't understand anything about love yet, they promised to marry each other once they grew up. Little Taehyung saw it on the TV and went to his best friend to propose.

"We can't get married now, but we will get married once we grew up. I'm gonna propose first so you'll remember me and don't get married with someone else."

"But you don't have a ring, Taetae."

"I made a paper ring for you. It's not like those shiny things that you love to collect but promise me that you'll marry me in future." Little Taehyung pull out a paper ring that he made earlier at home.

"Taetae, I like shiny things but I'd marry you with paper rings." The little girl which is the little you smile widely and little Taehyung put the paper ring on your little ring finger.

Back to present,

"I-I can't believe this. D-Did y-you remember me from the beginning??" Taehyung asked, excited, happy and confused has mixed to one in his feelings.

"Yes, Taehyung. I never forget about you, just like how I promised you." you smile even wider as you witness the happiness tears fell down to his chocolate glowing cheeks.

"W-Why you didn't told me? You could've just-I mean, it's cheating you know! You should've remind me, that's unfair." He couldn't stop whining, probably completely forgot about his proposal ring.

"Because true love find each other, Taehyung. I just wanted to see if we would feel the sparks towards each other like the old days again. I was wondering if that was just some childhood love story. I was afraid that the promise won't come true." your happiness tears fell down as well and he gently wipe it away.

"What a nonsense. See the prove yet? Even though you didn't tell me, even though I don't recognize you but I remember the promise that we made and the most important thing is, I fall for you, again and again. Even if it keep repeats for million times, I'll fall for you the million times too. I'll find you again." He lean in and connected his forehead with yours before whipser softly, "I love you."

"I love you too, Taetae."

"I'll make you a new paper ring soon."

"You better do."
