Chapter twenty:

Miranda’s POV

The ambulance wove through traffic smoothly. The sirens blared causing my ears to deafen. I stared into Jeremy’s eyes tears still running down my cheeks, “why did you do it?” I whispered catching Jeremy, off guard. “I had to, he kidnapped you, he hurt you. He deserved it,” he mumble, his breath still ragged and pained but his facial features shown no pain what so ever. I sighed, he’s more than I deserved. “What’s your name son?” the paramedic asked, leaning over Jeremy and slid open a plastic compartment, taking out a wad of cloth bandages out along with medical scissors and medical tape. “Jeremy sir,” he whispered, swallowing some blood that lingered in his mouth. “What happened?” the paramedic asked politely, carefully wrapping the bandages around the blade, cautious not to touch it, “A criminal kidnapped my girlfriend…” he began but was stopped by a gut wrenching cough, blood trickled down the side of his lips. I looked at the paramedic not surprise to see his eyebrows rose high. “How the hell did that happened,” He asked, snipping the tape and placing it on the bandages to keep them in place. Jeremy opened his lips to answer but shook my head at him, and he closed his lips. “Brandon was my ex, he went psycho and began killing people. He got out of jail on bail and came back for me, I told him I had cancer and he soften up, but when he was dropping me off, well…. This happened” I explained squeezing Jeremy’s hand tighter. I could feel the ambulance run over some bumps and halted to a stop. The other paramedic practically fell off the high drivers seat, running round back and opening the back doors. “Let’s go,” he said a little breathless. This paramedic was in his mid thirties I think, gray streaked his hair and wrinkles danced around his eyes. Both paramedics moved a series of latched and soon rolled the gurney off the ambulance. I moved along with them never letting go of Jeremy’s hand.

They rushed Jeremy through the ER doors and a crowd of nurses bombarded us. A tall lanky man with fire red hair and freckles around his nose came up beside us and pulled a flash light out flashing the light in Jeremy’s eyes. “My name is doctor Jones and I’m going to fix your chest alright?” the doctor said in a calm voice. A nurse comes behind me and urges me to let go of Jeremy’s hand, “I promised him id never let go,” I pleaded not wanting to leave his side. Jeremy, weakly looked up at me and nodded, “Listen to her, I’ll be fine,” he whispered, Tears escaped my eyes as I finally let go, the nurses and doctor rushed him away past the doors and I watched as he left. “I love you!” I shouted, as he looked up and back at me. I think I caught a glimpse of him smile. “He’ll be okay sweet, Dr. Jones is an amazing doctor, he’ll patch him up and he’ll be as good as new,” The nurse tried to reassure me towing me towards the waiting room. She eyed my clothes, “is that all his blood?” she asked “Yeah,” I whimpered, taking a seat on a padded chair in the white clean waiting room. The ER doors slid open as my parents rushed in with a panicked look, my dad jingling the keys in his hands as he practically ran to my side and grabbed me in his arms. My mom doing the same. “I’m so sorry honey, losing your brother and now this?” my mom said, what? Jason isn’t gone… More tears burst from my eyes. That explains it, the dead body in the hall, Brandon telling us we have a surprise. Everything, is going wrong! I need to call his parents… I dug into my pockets for my cell and dialled Jeremy’s home number. “Hello?” I said, my breath coming out short. “Hi? Who is this?” a women asked her voice husky and high pitched it was Jeremy‘s mom. Joy. “Hi it’s Miranda,” I replied sniffing. “Hi Miranda, it’s good to hear from you. How are you,” she asked casually, “Not so good miss. Jeremy was shot, I’m at the hospital, you need to come here now.” I said in a blur, I could hear Joy’s breath become ragged, panic seeped into her system. “Oh my gosh! Jeremy! Well be right over. Oh my…” she kept saying over and over, than hung up the phone. All we have to do it wait.

2 Hours passed and the doctor finally came out. “Are you the family of Jeremy?” he asked, looking at us with intensive eyes. “No, I’m his girlfriend and these are my parents, his parents are over here.” I said putting my hand on Jeremy’s mom, she tried to smile but failed, tears running down her face. Jeremy’s father, Nicholas had his arm around her shoulder, it was obvious he was holding back tears also. “Your son was lucky, extremely lucky.” the doctor said, beads of sweat dripped down the front of his forehead. “You see, the bullet came millimetres away from his heart and any major arteries, I just recently finished surgery on him, and he’ll be fine, he’s resting in a room right now. If you like I’ll get a nurse to lead you to his room, please do not worry, he’ll live.” the doctor explained, he uses way too many hand gestures. I let go of a long breath, one I did not know I was holding, and threw myself in Joy and Nicholas’ arms, my parents came behind me and hugged us also. One tight and big group hug. “Let’s go see him.” Nicholas said, moving his hand from Joy’s shoulder to her hand. She looked at him overjoyed with happiness, “Alright.” she said. We all walked towards the nurse’s desk and quickly asked where to go. She lead us down a long white and bright hallway. We walked into a brightly lit room where Jeremy was laid nicely on a bed. His eyes were wide open, as if shocked… what? I panicked, His mouth was taped over with ducked tape, he waved his hands, telling us to leave. I ran in. Brandon was at the foot of the bed pointing a gun at Jeremy. He cocked his head to the side. “Hey baby, I think it’s time for you to go to sleep.” Brandon suggested, and pointed the gun at me. My dad gasped and pushed me out of the way, getting shot in the torso. “DAD!” I screamed crawling towards me. “God Damn it! I missed, Oh well one less person to worry about.” he said, Pointing the gun at my mom, shooting to clean shots at my mom’s chest, she fell to the ground limp and lifeless. “MOM!!!” I yelled, tears shot down my eyes. And I tried crawling towards her. But pain flared up in my calf. Blood swelled from the gun shot as I looked back at him, a stupid smile painted on his face, just like a mental person. He swung his gun at Joy and shot twice before shooting Nicolas in the head. I just stared at them, everyone… I love. GONE! I screamed, as Brandon shot Jeremy, in the head, right in between the eye brows. “Jeremy!” I cried trying to get to my feet, but the bullet went right through the bone in my leg, causing me to scream in pain. “Why Brandon, why!” I asked, my voice crumbing and losing it’s sound until it was barely a whisper. “Because my darling this is how its meant to be” he smiled, and he shot my in the chest, pain hit me like a loco motive train, my breath soon betrayed me, I quickly looked at Brandon just in time to see him shove the gun in his mouth and shot him self. Blood splurged all over the walls. I closed my eyes, letting the pain take over and take me to another place. I love you Jeremy, I thought, and a bright light flashed before my eyes, a short sliver like tunnel came before and at the end was my parents, and my brother, and Jeremy, my darling Jeremy, His angelic face was overwhelming to see, two hands were on his shoulders, his mom and dad. I sighed, he’s the most handsome caring and loveable person I’ve ever seen and now I get to be with him forever. Every single person smiled at me one at a time, their teeth glowing in the light. “Come on baby, let’s go home.” Jeremy said, holding his hand out for me.

I walked towards Jeremy and took his soft muscled hand, and from then, I knew everything was going to be alright. I’m home. I smiled and looked up at Jeremy and said. “I love you,” before everything disappeared in the light and all was right with my life.
