Chapter 6

The first ray of golden sunshine was first caught by none other than F.O.X. She was sitting upon a tree branch, "observing" the waking of Maple Forest. She "observed" how the other creatures woke up, how the birds sing their morning songs, & how everyone was storing up food for the upcoming winter. All of a sudden, F.O.X.'s eyes zoned out and her fur bristled. She was having a vision. In it, it showed her mother, Morning Star. It was raining, with thunder & lightning. She was struggling to walk through the storm because of the high wind. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck an old tree beside her. It then started to fall in her mother's direction. Morning Star was so scared, that she couldn't move. She just watched the tree fall upon her. A clap of thunder got her attention, but by then, it was already too late. The tree landed with a THUD on top of her. Blood started to run in the mud. Then, a soft voice said, When the star dies out, a new one is born. F.O.X. shook her head and her mind started racing with questions. Why was my Mom in that horrible weather? When is the storm going to be? Is my Mother really going to die? Is there going to even be a storm? And, the most important question of all, What does that sentence mean? She thought about it over and over in her head many times. When the star dies out, a new one is born. Then, she said out loud, "It just doesn't make any sense."What doesn't make any sense?" F.O.X. whipped her head around to find Ranson sitting below her. "That your mom is kinda weird?" F.O.X. jumped down gracefully down from her branch, landing softly on her front paws first. "She's not weird, she's just...complicated. Sometimes.", F.O.X. said in her usual voice. "Hey, you got a minute? I need to talk to you about something." Ranson perked up and said, "Of course. I'm not busy." F.O.X. nodded in the direction of the tree trunk & he nodded back. They both walked behind the trunk and sat down, their faces inches from each other. F.O.X. started to whisper, "Ok, so, you know how I was sitting on the tree branch alone, right?" Ranson nodded and said slowly, "Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa." Anyways, I had a vision. About something very interesting.", she continued. Ranson thought, Oh, this is sweet!!! She is totally into me!!!! "Yea, what was it?" F.O.X. leaned in until their noses were so close, they were breathing on each other. "It was about... my mother dieing. "What!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?", Ranson exclaimed. "Shhhh! We don't want anyone else to hear us." He started again, "But, what was it about? What did it say about Morning Star?" F.O.X. told him everything, from when she was sitting and enjoying nature on the branch, to when the vision stopped & Ranson came outside. He listened with great interest, sometimes nodding his head and gasping out. "Oh, and I forgot one more thing. At the end, a soft voice said, 'When the star dies out, a new one is born.' What do you think it means?" Ranson scratched behind his ear with his fore paw & thought. "Well, maybe it means that Maple might have, like, super powers or something." He puffed out his chest, closed his eyes, & smiled proudly, showing his gleaming semi-white teeth. F.O.X. just looked at him with a "blah" face. "Um, yea." All of a sudden, Flame & Maple popped out their heads from both sides of the trunk, Flame on the left, where F.O.X. was, & Maple on the right, where Ranson was. "Hey, are you guys mating!?!??!", they both said at the same time. F.O.X. and Ranson both jumped & ran out to chase them. They chased each other for a long time. They were very fast, just mere streaks of orange & brown. When they were done, they all fell in a pile together, breathing heavily. Flame wiped his forehead with his paw & panted out, "I..didn't...know...you...could...run...so...fast...F.O.X." She looked at him & replied, "Why, thanks. So can you." After they finished resting up, F.O.X. got up & said, "I'm gonna ask Mom & Fireheart if we can go & hunt.Ok?" Maple replied, "Ok.I'm hungry anyway." She nodded & trotted inside the den.
