~F.O.X.'s POV~
I crawled back up to the surface & breathed in fresh air. "Finally, you came back. What took you so long, sis?", I heard Flame call out. "She was talking about some fox traps that the Twolegs set. Then she called me back again, but she said never mind." That got everyone's attention. "I wonder what she was about to say.", Maple said out loud. "Yeah. I wonder if she was gonna ask you to go on an dangerous mission.", Flame said as he pretended he was stalking in tall grass. I just rolled my eyes. It's just Flame letting his imagination run wild again, I thought to myself. "I'm probably sure she's gonna tell us when we all grow up.", I said reassuringly. "Yeah, yeah, sis. Now lets go get some fresh-kill!", Flame exclaimed. And with that, he ran off into the forest & he was gone. Maple rolled her eyes & trotted off too. Now, it was just me & Ranson. "Hey, F.O.X., can I ask you something. It's, like, kinda personal." I looked up at him & said softly, "Yes. What is it?" Ranson's heart beated very fast & he could hardly breath. "I'm................in love with you.", he said out loud. He let out a loud whoosh & returned to normal again, smiling. I just stared at him, then at the ground, then back at him. "Well, that's, um, interesting." I sat up straight & looked into his eyes. "But, sorry. I'm not in love with you. Thanks for telling me anyway."Oh, well, ok. No prob.", Ranson said quietly. "But can we be mates? Please?" I sighed & said, "Fine, but when I find anoher male that I like, you will have to let me go." Ranson jumped for joy with a loud whoop. At the same time, Flame & Maple returned with lots of fresh-kill & Morning Star & Fireheart came out. Morning Star looked over to Flame & Maple & said, "I knew I said little snack, but since it's nighttime, let's eat dinner." Flame & Maple dropped their load into a pile & everyone formed a circle around it. Then, we ate. By the time we were done, it was very dark out, with the moon and stars being the only light. We all went to our nests, saying good-night to each other. Me, Flame, & Maple walked down the middle tunnel to our nests. Our den was kinda like our parents, but smaller and it had nothing on the walls but a few drawings. We all climbed into our nests & I said goodnight to the others & curled up in my nest. Before drifting off to sleep, I heard Ranson settling into his nest through the wall & thought about me being mates with him. I'll just have to wait & see, I guess.
