She's all you ever need.

"Do you still love me?" she asks.

"Of course," you respond. How could you not be in love with her? You can't imagine a universe in which you're not completely and irrevocably in love with her.

"Good," she replies, smiling slightly. She's so beautiful. From her short dark hair to her deep brown eyes, everything about her is absolutely inhumanly gorgeous.

She reaches forward, touching your face. You close your eyes for a moment, savoring the feeling of her skin against yours.

"I love you," she says, but her voice sounds distant. You open your eyes, and her hand is no longer on your face. You don't even see her.

"Demi?" you ask, your heart starting to race.

"I'm here." You hear the echoes of her voice, but she's not here.

"Demi?" you repeat, louder. You look around you, but everything has gone white. The lush green trees are gone. The smell of flowers in the air is gone. The blue of the bright sky is gone. Everything is mute and monotone.

"I'm here," she says again, but her voice sounds even further than it did the first time.

You lurch awake with a gasp. You reach beside you where you want her to be. Your hand only grips the sheets. You look beside you; you can still imagine her lying next to you. Everything hits you at once. It was only a dream. Demi is not here beside you where she should be. You look down at your hands, feeling as though you're still in a dream. A nightmare.

You see her in everything. Ever since she left, you feel her presence even more strongly. She's beside you when you sleep. She's by your side when you're making breakfast. She's walking with you when you're going to work.

You reach for your phone. You know you shouldn't call her. You know you shouldn't. But you really want to. You can just imagine her picking up and telling you how much she loves you. She'll tell you how she made a mistake and she'll come right back to you. Because you're the only one for her.

You're staring blankly at the dark wall as you fantasize. She's back in your life as far as your fantasy is concerned. And then you snap out of it. You look down at your phone and unlock it before going to call her. But your thumb hovers over the call button. And then reality fucking hits you because it's one in the morning and calling her now would just be fucking annoying.

You put your phone down quickly and lie down again. You stare at your ceiling and let out a breath. Maybe tomorrow.

———

You wake up. The first thing on your mind is Demi. She always is. You live and breathe her. She permeated your very being; when she disappeared, she left a hole in your heart. Too big to fill so easily.

"I love you, Demi," you whisper to yourself as you stare at your white ceiling. The sunlight dances in your room as the breeze shakes your curtains ever so slightly. It's a soft feeling, but you don't feel its gentleness at all.

You reach for your phone and see you have several texts.

Your heart skips a beat when you see they're from her.

I told you to leave me alone!

Stop calling me!

I'll get another restraining order if I have to!

Your heart sinks. How could she say something like this? You text her back.

Why are you saying these things? I didn't call you last night either.
