"We're on our way, Eds. I promise we're on our way," Richie whispered to himself, holding his journal close to his chest. "We're going to save you."
Eddie didn't know who "we" was, since all he saw was Richie and Bev in the back of Steve's car with Robin in the passenger seat. He didn't lose hope, though. If Richie was willing to whisper to himself that he was on his way, Eddie would believe it.
He'd always believe Richie.
Richie hadn't written another letter and seemed to be fidgeting a lot. Eddie knew well enough that Richie couldn't stay still, but it made Eddie feel better.
He remembered the letters that he'd read before he left to find his memories. Richie loved him and wanted him in his life, more than anything. The thought made Eddie's heart beat a little faster.
Even though Eddie didn't understand what Richie meant when he claimed Eddie had died, he didn't care. They were both alive and they were going to be back together. All Eddie had to do was hold on.
Even though nothing was happening, Eddie watched Richie sit in the back seat, humming to himself and bouncing his leg to try to ease his nerves. Eddie wondered how he never noticed Richie's beauty before.
He had curly hair that was surprisingly soft (Eddie only knew that because he'd sometimes get the guts to run his fingers through it when he and the losers were watching movies and Richie laid his head in his lap). His eyes were a beautiful brown color, and his glasses only illuminated that, though Eddie often said he just looked stupid to hide the fact that he was crushing on the infamous trashmouth.
He would've stayed in his vision forever, watching his best friend who he loved with everything he had, but soon enough, he felt something outside of his vision touching him.
"Eddie, get up," whispered a soft voice.
Eddie blinked the haze from his eyes and saw El sitting beside him, gently shaking him awake.
"They're coming for us," Eddie said with a smile. "They're coming to save us!"
El broke into a wide grin as well. "They are?!"
"Well, Richie, Bev, Steve, and Robin are. The others are probably in another truck or something. But it seems like this lab is close to Hawkins, so they should be here soon!"
El pulled Eddie into a hug, smiling widely. Kali was grinning at the two and their excitement, whereas Avi had an eyebrow raised.
"Who's coming?" she asked, looking nervous.
"My friends," Eddie said, his face tinged pink as he thought of Richie.
"Oooooo it's more than that," Kali said, nudging Eddie playfully. She noticed his blush and easily assumed he was crushing on whoever was showing up to save them.
"Shhhh, don't embarrass me," Eddie snapped, though he was still smiling. Over the time they'd spent locked in a room together, Kali and Eddie had gotten along well and had developed a teasing relationship.
"Which one is it?" El asked, smirking.
Eddie hung his head, still blushing bright red. "Richie," he murmured, not knowing if the others would accept him for being gay.
"Aw, cute!" Kali exclaimed. "He was the depressed kid with the glasses who showed up where I worked, right?"
Eddie shrugged. "Probably. He looks like Mike Wheeler a bit. I think they're siblings."
"How?" El asked. "Mike never mentioned having a brother."
Eddie shrugged. "We can ask Richie when he saves us," he said with another smile.
