Will and the losers sat in Will's room with the file opened in the middle of the floor. They hadn't gone past the first pages, since Bill broke down into a fit of tears when he saw Georgie's picture. They didn't want to make it worse and continue to gather information until Bill was better.
It was nearly four in the morning, yet none of them felt tired. They were all too focused on waiting for Bill to feel better so they could find out what the hell was going on.
Bill was laying on Will's bed, crying into a pillow. Stan and Mike both sat at the end of the bed, not touching their friend. He was in a fragile state and didn't want to be comforted.
It had been a few hours of Bill's on and off crying, with the others sitting and conversing amongst themselves. The other losers had filled Will in on why Bill was reacting so violently to the image of the boy in the file, and he seemed to understand.
"Bill," Bev said softly after a few hours of sitting without looking into the file. "I know you're hurting, but we need to figure out what's going on before those people from the lab find us."
Bill looked up, tear stains on his face and looking simply exhausted. "I'm n-not stopping you g-guys from looking. You guys c-c-can, I just don't want t-to," he said in a broken voice glaring at the file on the ground.
Stan scooted up, closer to Bill, who didn't try to get away. He stayed where he was and allowed Stan to hug him tightly.
"You should sleep, Bill. The rest of us can read through the file, okay?" Stan asked, laying back so Bill could rest his head on his chest.
Bill sniffed and nodded, closing his eyes.
The others received the okay from Stan and started to open the file, flipping past the first few pages they'd already seen.
There were several different sections, so Will distributed them amongst the losers who were helping him. The sections were Experiments, Locations, Technology, and Results.
Bev opened hers, which had the Experiments section. "Look," she said, pointing at the first page.
Ben learned over and noticed the list that Bev was pointing at. It had numbers, one through fourteen, and different page numbers.
"Eddie was thirteen, right?" Ben asked, flipping to the page number.
There, they saw an image of Eddie, looking dazed and confused. Along with it were strange looking diagrams, which Will said were brain scans.
"For people with abilities they use scans to measure the intensity of their powers. It's almost a way to test their control," Will informed them, looking at Eddie's scans. "His are mental abilities, so they don't show up as much on the scans."
"Look at Georgie's," Stan called quietly, trying to keep Bill asleep.
"Damn," Bev whispered, looking at Georgie's scans.
The lines were all over the place, looking way more intense than Eddie's.
"He doesn't have a lot of control but he has a lot of power," Will said, leaning closer to get a better look at the scans. "They're similar to El's older scans."
"Hey, look at this," Mike said, showing them a map of the locations. "There's three labs. One here, one near Aloville, and another about forty miles west from here."
"At least if Brenner manages to catch them then we'll have some idea of where they could be," Ben said.
"Doesn't that mean Georgie would be in the one west of here? Eddie was saved from the Aloville one, and I doubt the police chief would leave a kid behind," Stan said, wincing when Bill shifted, worried he might have woken him up.
Bev nodded in agreement. "We need to get this to the chief then. The quicker we save Georgie, the better," she said, looking sadly at Bill who seemed very distressed, even though he was asleep.
"Guys, look at this," Stan said from where he was sitting on the bed. He had his own section of the file, the one titled Technology.
"What is it?" Will asked as they all climbed on the bed.
Stan tossed the file to the middle of the bed, a glare on his face. "Their tech."
Mike took the file and began to read through it. There was informations on extremely advanced technology that none of them had ever heard of. It had information about holograms, projections, and other things like that.
Between Ben and Mike, they were able to explain what most of the stuff was.
"Guys," Mike said, pointing at an image. "That's a hologram drone."
"Yeah? What does that even mean?" Bev asked, seemingly annoyed because she didn't entirely understand what was going on.
Mike flipped a page. "Does this image look familiar to any of you?" he asked, holding up a sheet of paper.
"Oh my god," Ben whispered, eyes blown wide.
In the middle of the page was an image of the clown that they had faced months before. Only, it wasn't the full thing. It wasn't solidified or as evil looking. It was transparent, as a result of hologram drones not fully working.
"It was a fucking hologram," Stan hissed, running his hand through Bill's hair to keep him asleep.
"It makes sense," Bev said, finally realizing what happened. "As soon as it 'killed' Eddie, none of us remember what happened after. We all woke up next to the quarry without Eddie."
"So it was a trick?" Mike asked, unsure whether to be angry or thankful.
"Wait, what was a trick?" Will asked, looking at the transparent image of a clown. He didn't know what to make of the situation, but everyone else seemed to know what was going on.
"This fucking clown," Bev said, glaring at the screen. "Haunted us for most of our summer. It chased us and we thought it was real. There's a bunch of weird history in Derry stating some evil thing haunts our town, and I guess the lab people appealed to it and used it to trick us. It was made of fucking holograms!"
"So that means that nothing about the clown was real, and it was all a trick to capture Eddie and apparently to get Georgie, too. They had to fake deaths or else they knew we'd go after them," Stan said, still looking pissed off.
"We need to find them," Ben said. "They we're willing to create drones and trick us into believing a legend to find them. If we don't find them soon, there's no telling what'll happen."
