A cool breeze on my face causes me to wake up. I open my eyes to see Harry across from me with his lips puckered. He grins when my eyes meet his causing me to smile.
"Good morning, beautiful," he greets cheerfully.
"Good morning," I say before a yawn interrupts me. "What's got you in such a good mood today?"
"The paint to the nursery is finished so we can start building furniture whenever you're up for it," he says happily causing me to smile. I give him a nod and he returns one before leaning forward and pecking my lips.
"I love you."
"I love you too, Harry."
"So can we start building?" He asks impatiently.
"Let me at least go pee first," I tell him with a laugh. I pull the covers off of my body and stand with a stretch. Harry follows my actions as I head to the bathroom. After I use the restroom and brush my teeth, I get dressed in a pair of yoga pants and one of Harry's old tee shirts before walking next door to the freshly painted nursery.
"Are you sure it's dry? I don't want to be breathing in any fumes," I ask Harry and he nods as he opens the pink and white curtains.
"It's been over 48 hours so it should be safe." I nod and have a seat in the chair that was in the corner of the room as Harry tears open one of the IKEA boxes. He pulls out the directions and begins figuring out how to put the furniture together as I shop for supplies online.
"Ooh, Harry, these sheets are cute," I say before showing him my phone screen. He nods and gives me a smile before we go back to our own things.
"Oh for fucks sake," Harry whispers under his breath after a few minutes of fussing with the miscellaneous pieces of wood and packet of directions. I peak up at him from my phone screen and see him sitting there glaring at the directions.
"Everything okay?" I call out.
"Yeah," he says with a nod. "I just cant get this piece to go in." I stand from my seated position and walk over to Harry. I kneel to the ground and pick up the directions and look them over.
"Uhm, Harry? This is the wrong side piece."
"No it's not."
"Yes, it is," I reply.
"No, it isn't, Ireland. I've read the directions and I know what I'm doing. It's the correct piece."
"Harry, I am looking at both the dresser and the directions and right now they don't match," I tell him which causes him to sigh loudly.
"You guys doin' okay?" Liam asks from the doorway.
"Yes."
"No." Harry and I answer at the same time causing Liam to chuckle. He steps into the room resulting in another sigh from Harry. Liam steps over and kneels between Harry and I and reads over the directions, occasionally looking up at the half put together dresser. Liam sighs and begins pulling the side of the dresser apart from the top and bottom pieces. He places the right side piece on the left side and pops it in place. He stands and exits the room as Harry sits there dumbfounded.
"Told you," I say softly causing Harry to glare at me.
"Shut up and go back to working on your shopping list," he teases sassily causing me to giggle. I sit back in the chair and begin scrolling through baby clothes. Our little girl was going to be a fashionista. Harry gets the dresser put together and put against the wall before he starts working on the crib. After the crib was halfway put together Harry wipes the sweat from his forehead.
"I'm going to head downstairs and grab something to drink, do you need anything?" Harry asks as he stands.
"I take some saltine crackers and a seven up, my stomach's kind of feeling upset." He nods and leans down to place a kiss on my forehead.
"Love you," he says before walking out of the room.
"Love you more!" I shout after him. I hear his footsteps slowly fade away into nothing and I look back at my phone. As I'm scrolling through Pinterest I get an uncomfortable, almost like nervous butterflies, feeling in my belly. I ignore it and go back to scrolling before it happens again. Realization hits me and I gasp loudly.
"Harry!" I scream out. In seconds I hear his feet stomping up the stairs. He rushes into the room breathlessly and gives me a concerned look.
"What's wrong?" I reach for his hand and grab it pulling him over to me. I place his hand on my belly and he gives me a confused look before the baby kicks softly.
"Oh my God, she just kicked."
"For the first time," I whisper out. He looks up from his hand and his eyes meet mine. He smiles widely and attacks me for a hug. I let out a giggle as he squeezes me tightly.
"That's so cool," Harry says softly as he places his hand back on my belly. When our little girl kicks again, he smiles brightly.
"Hi, baby," he whispers out. "It's Daddy." I smile at his sweet words and lean forward to kiss him on the forehead. His head snaps up and he leans in and connects our lips sweetly. Our lips move in sync and I smile into the kiss.
"I love you," I whisper to Harry after pulling away and giving him a smile.
"I love you more, Ireland." My smile grows wider and I realize now that Harry was empty handed.
"Where's my snacks?" I ask in a cheerful voice. Harry rolls his eyes and kisses my lips before standing once more.
"I'll be back," he says with a happy sigh as he leaves the room.
