From what I remember in these cook books.. I've managed to remember one dish that I've wanted to do, but never had the ingredients. I'm not very comfortable with this idea and feel I should go safe.. but then- my dish wouldn't be all so inspiring, and therefore no matter how good my dish might be, there's a possibility that won't matter if it's not innovated.
Before I got to my station, I grabbed my ingredients which were onions, green chili, garlic, olive oil, salt, pepper, cumin, tomato sauce, black beans, corn tortillas, 5 eggs, Montgomery cheddar, little chili flakes, and coriander. I grabbed as much as ingredients as I could to my station so that I wouldn't waste too much time.
I started off by cutting the onions into small pieces, slice the chili seeds in, garlic sliced in perfectly thinly. Then grab a tablespoon of olive oil and pour it onto the pan quickly and precisely. After the olive oil is in, turn on the heat, and put in the chopped vegetables into the pan to let it cook, and as it was cooking- season it.
I looked away from my dish for a couple of seconds to see how much time I had left, but as I did so.. I felt as if I was being stared upon. I looked away from the timer slowly and looked at the judge, she stared at me as if I didn't belong, or maybe because I was the only one there..? I stopped to look around and see that everyone left.. except for my acquaintance. Where did everybody go?
I shook my head and grabbed the cumin, and sprinkled it around the sizzling vegetables, and now just shuffle the pan around a bit to get those flavors to combine well. It's looking crispy, now I believe I can put in the tomato sauce and mix it around with a wooden spoon, then shuffle the pan again, but slower and leave it to simmer. Grab the black beans and then rinse them with a little bit of water, once that's done- gently put in the beans onto the pan, turn off the heat and leave it to absorb, keep shuffling the pan and mix with the wooden spoon to soften and soak up all the flavor.
Now grab a plate bowl, use oil and season it. I used my hand to get the oil around the outside, then get corn tortillas and cut them by half's and put them around the plate bowl, and get a uncut tortilla and place it on the middle. Grab my mix and place it on top of the tortilla, spread it out nice and smoothly and lift up the tortilla flaps.
Now I'll finally use my eggs and cheese. Grab the egg and place in onto the mix to make a little base there, and then carefully crack the egg with a spoon and place it onto the base like a dugout, and repeat this process 5 times around the mix. Use the cheese shredder to shred the Montgomery cheese around the mix, and now to season it with little chili flakes to help spice up the egg, add salt and a touch of pepper. And now grab the plate and put it in the oven to bake for 9 minuets on 180 degrees.
That took a while for him to actually use eggs.. I will say his dish looks different from any other type of dish I have seen. But that doesn't mean it'll taste good by any means, it looks like a mess! He's already baking the dish and preparing drinks like fresh orange juice, and coffee.. he's really confident that he'll pass, we'll see.
I've already tried the red hair boys dish and I'd hate to admit it, but his dish was delicious.. and he was quick. But this other boy.. he took his time and put in so much effort, it would be a shame to have been all for nothing.
He walked up to me with his dish that looked really unique, both in a good and bad way. "Here you go miss, I hope you enjoy what I've made for you" he bowed and looked down in fear? Embarrassment? I didn't know, and I didn't care. I grabbed a spoonful of the dish and without hesitation to taste this sad excuse for a dish I was shocked to figure out that I was completely wrong.. I've never tasted anything like it~
It was as if my whole body was hot, and sweaty, but the feeling felt right, my tongue has never felt this kind of feeling before. The flavors all seemed to combine, the onions, garlic, and chili support the black beans and tomato sauce bust out it's flavors~. The cooked eggs with cheese instantly melted in my mouth~. I wanted more~.. but I didn't want to embarrass myself from whomever it was that cooked this delicious meal..
I looked at the judge and.. her physical appearance showed that she was sweating.. and blushing.. have I maybe put in too much chili..? Have I failed you grandpa..
"Y-you passed.." she said with a quickly. I held in my excitement, I actually passed..! Grandpa would be so proud to hear about this.. I wanted to tear up and thank her, but I didn't want to screw my chances and make her change her mind, so instead I politely thanked her and bowed.
"Come with me.." I was confused why she wanted me to follow her but I obliged, I mean what else would I've done? And so we walked through these fancy corridors and I looked in amazement until out of nowhere she punched a wall and made a loud "wak" sound. Moments later she sat with her legs with a quite "ow".
"Are you ok miss..? Has anything happened?" I have to treat her with some respect.. I mean she did pass me and I won't deny it but.. she was attractive.
"Nothing.. nothing is wrong. But I do have a question.. where did you learn to cook like that? It's obvious you didn't learn from someone from around here, so I wanna know. Who taught you?"
"Well.. I mainly learned from my grandparents, they've kinda inspired me to become a chief. And I also learned from many other cooking books from around the world, even if I don't understand that la-" before I could continue any longer she interrupted me with another question
"Who are your grandparents? We're they special cooks?" I'm not sure why she's getting really personal.. but I don't think I'm in a position to be asking her that
"Futoshi L/n and Kogō Saito.. if I remember correctly, they used to cook for someone's daughter here, but I don't remember much about this place, or the daughter.."
She looked down and frowned a bit and looked away, and quietly said "so you forgotten me.."
