A month has gone by since I have graduated high school. It is very warm in London as Joe and I are taking our bulldogs for a stroll. Both of us are having our casual conversation. Things won't be the same when Joe goes back to America in order to attend trade school. I don't know why I never thought of a trade the day that I was receiving my high school diploma. But I already made my choice and I had already had a few conversations with a recruiter. Though I have already made the decision, I should've known what I was actually getting myself into.

"Stanley stop!" Joe snapped at the black French bulldog who kept on dragging Joe on his leash. I laughed because of how funny it was. Olive would not stop panting and I could tell that she really was struggling. I felt bad for her. "Come on Olive, we're almost home." I tell her as if she's an actual child. I consider her almost like a practice baby. Although I don't plan to have children for awhile.

My dog stopped in her tracks and I try to pull her away so that she can continue to walk. She still wouldn't move. Joe and I glanced at one another. I'm really annoyed by how spoiled she is regardless of it being my fault. I will probably spoil her just as much as my dad spoiling the cats. I pick up my fawn coated puppy and hold her close to my chest. "Dad's house is right there. We should go say hi." I suggest. "Yeah, I'm starting to run out of energy." Joe agreed with me as we only had to walk fifty more feet to get to the place that I am now glad to be out of. I stop by from time to time but I have slowly drawn myself away from there. It's not necessarily my fault.

Five minutes later we barged in through the front door. The house was awkwardly quiet. Normally it isn't. There were times when this was the loudest house in the neighborhood and the police were called on us over twelve times and if not more. The worst part about it were the many sleepless nights in here. "Dad! Wake your ass up!" I yell in order to annoy him. "I'm in here darling!" He replied and it sounded like he was in the living room. I set Olive down and she starts to run in the same direction that we were going. In a minute I saw my dad dressed in his casual clothes that I am way too used to seeing him in.

I walked over and embraced him while he was still sitting down on the couch. "Put the dogs outside." He ordered. I let go of him for a minute. Is he joking? "What?" I wanted to be sure I heard what I just heard. "The dogs need to go outside. They're annoying and they're going to annoy the cats." He said. I squinted my eyes at him and picked Olive up. Joe did the same with Stanley as we slid open the patio door. Sadly we let our children outside. "The cats suck." Joe mumbled under his breath.

As we closed the patio door, my dad dropped the magazine he was skimming through. I'm pretty sure that he heard what Joe said about his other babies. "What did you say?" He asked. "N-nothing, dad." Joe stuttered. "That's a goddamn lie." My dad commented and I knew where this was going. "Yeah Joe you should know by now that my dad is a living polygraph test." I warn my now brother over something that he should know. "Right." Joe replied in an annoyed tone. "Children, please sit down. I haven't seen the two of you in forever. I was about to go over there." He informed but little did he know we changed the locks on the doors.

"Oh, well we were in the neighborhood and just thought that we could stop by to say hi." I told him even though we only needed a break. I feel like a terrible person even telling him half of the truth. I sit still as there is an awkward moment of silence. "So how have you been, dad?" I ask him. My dad raised an eyebrow. "You would know if you talked to me at all last week. So I'm not going to tell you." He replied. "Ooohhhhh!" Joe yelled and I squinted my eyes at him. "Josephine you're guilty of it too." I reminded him and he stopped laughing at that point. "I'm alright, thank you. I went to the doctor today, and he told me something." My father continued.

""What, that you're doing well?" I'm trying to condition myself for it being bad news. It's not going to be bad news, it can't be. If it is then the doctor lied to him. "You know what. I'll continue to let you think that it is. Because I'm not really in the mood to talk about it. So keep thinking it's something good." My dad said. I understand what he is trying to say and go back to looking at the ground. "Tiffany, Tiffany!" Joe called out and it took the second time for me to hear him. I glance up at him and he looks scared. "What's up?" I ask him.

"Girl, your dog. She's in the pool right now. And french bulldogs can't swim." Joe told me. I stood up to see Olive struggling in the deep end. Oh shit. "Dad, I'll be right back just give me one second." I inform and run towards the patio door quickly sliding it open. It hurts me to see Olive struggling to get out of the pool which means that I have to save her. Without questioning it, I dive right in and the water is freezing. I swim over and quickly hug my dog in order to get a strong hold on her. I move my legs in order to get to where I was before.

Once I get to the end of the pool I force myself up and my dad immediately greets me with a towel. Instead of using it for myself, I wrap it around Olive like she's a baby and hold her in my arms as I take a seat. "Are you ok?" He asked me. "I'm fine. It's just that my dog fell ass first into the pool." I reply and now it is kind of funny to think about.
