29. Spring

Before I could blink, months past in a huge blur. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years were all over before I could catch my breath. Thanksgiving I spent with Charlie on the reservation with Billy and Jacob. There was obvious tension but I just ignored it. Christmas was exciting considering I spent Christmas night at the Cullen house. Alice, as usual, had completely transformed their house for Christmas.

"She does this every year," Edward told me as I sat beside him on the couch. The tree they had cut down from the forest reached all the way to the ceiling. There were wrapped gifts under the tree but I had a suspicion there were more hidden around the house. Edward pulled me closer into his side with a grin kissing my forehead as the rest of the family joined us. Esme and Rosalie had decided to cook food for me for Christmas. Secretly I wondered if they even knew how to cook in the first place. Though whatever they were cooking spelt divine as it floated into the living room.

"Bella!" Alice called from the stairs as she came down. She was in a red dress with flats grinning from ear to ear. "Do you want to open gifts before or after you eat?" She inquired. I glanced toward the kitchen and the gifts under the tree before patting my stomach. "We can wait for food. Gifts first." I said. Normally I would have been against the idea of gifts but I knew most of the gifts were for the child growing inside of me. I desperately needed some maternity clothes since I was showing and mostly wearing sweatshirts and hoodies with stretch pants.

Alice called everyone into the room and we all got started. As I expected, I got maternity clothes from Alice, unisex baby clothes from Rose, and surprisingly I got a crib from Esme. It was beautiful too and I cried embarrassingly at their care. I hated being pregnant because I cried at the drop of a hat. Edward was the only one that got both the baby something and me a gift. I gave him a look which he merely gave me that crooked grin that set my heart into overdrive. He did it on purpose, it wasn't fair. He could get anything he wanted out of me with that one look while I still hadn't discovered the weakness I possessed that would get him.

"I didn't even buy it, Bella." He soothed me. I quirked an eyebrow but let it go as he grinned. It turned out that Edward had created me a CD. It had music on it that he had written and it was all beautiful. "Unfortunately the gift for the child cannot be given yet. Not until we learn the sex of the child," Edward said glancing between me and Alice. Since my child was human Alice could see them as plain as day with nothing blocking her but I refused to know what the sex was until an actual doctor could tell us. I didn't want to rely on Alice's vision for my child; this was going to be as normal a pregnancy as possible.

That night had been spent listening to stories of past Christmases. I wound up spending the night with Edward as they had bought a bed for his room just for me. It was grand and beautiful as Edward stayed with me all night and thanks to having Jasper in the house, my bad dreams stayed away.

Unfortunately, Edward, Carlisle, and Emmett decided to go hunting around New Years. Carlisle and Emmett hadn't been hunting in about a month but Edward had just gone at the beginning of the month with Alice and Jasper. I stood at the back door where they would leave in the night. I would be here with Esme, Rosalie, Alice, and Jasper. They would be gone at most four days but that felt like a lifetime that I would be away from him. He pulled me into his arms rubbing his fingers along my back being careful of my growing bulge. "Don't worry," he whispered, "I'll be back before you know it." I nodded but I would still miss him like crazy.

Esme came up beside me after he kissed both my lips and forehead before jogging over to Carlisle. I glanced at Esme who placed her hand on my shoulder, "Don't worry, Bella. I'm sure he'll only be gone for a day or two," she said. I shook my head, "He better not. He needs to hunt; he didn't hunt that much at the beginning of the month. It's the reason he has to go yet again," I explained.
