Chapter 12

WAKING UP in the morning was a gradual progress. Enveloped in a warm cocoon, Sarah felt like she was sleeping on heaven’s door. She had just a dream and its memory was fading. But she knew it was a good dream because she was smiling.

“Good morning, sleepy head. It’s time to wake up. It’s already morning.”

She slowly opened her eyes and saw Gerald. She lovingly glazed at his face. Halatang bagong gising din ito. He is smiling. The redness on his face looked fascinating on him.

“’morning, Babe. Napasarap yata ang tulog ko.”

“You were sleeping like a kitten. You were even purring.”

“I was not.” Napangiting sabi niya.

“You were.”

Sarah shook her head and slightly pushed him.

“Let’s eat breakfast, Babe.” Sarah said while getting off to bed.

“Can we just stay here? Paluto nalang ako ng breakfast natin. I can think of so many things we can do inside that we can’t do outside.”

“Like what?” she crossed her arms on her chest.

He grinned. And before she knew it, he pulled her back in bed. He then settled above her.

“Anderson!”

“You made it hard for me last night, Babe. Siksik ka ng siksik. Kung anu-ano tuloy pumapasok sa isip ko. I mean, here I am with a very beautiful woman locked inside a cottage and she’s my girlfriend for Christ’s Sake!.”

“Heh! Umayos ka, Anderson! I’ll shout!”

“You can shout as loud as you want, Babe. No one’s gonna disturb us.”

“I’m warning you…Mahiya ka nga sa mga kaibigan mo. Ang ingay-ingay natin dito.”

“They wouldn’t know any better. They left early this morning. It’s just you and me here all alone.”

“Whhaatt?! Why you didn’t tell me?! Sumabay na sana tayong umalis sa kanila.”

“Well, I hate to disturb your sleeping, sweety. And besides, I’ve decided to stay here for another 2 days with you.”

“Two days?! How about my work tomorrow?!”

“Hey! Hey! Hey! Don’t panic, okay? Have you forgotten that I am the Boss here?”

“All right! You win this time, Anderson. I’ll just take a shower.” Napapailing na tumayo siya at pumasok sa banyo.

She is wearing her robe when finally get out of the bathroom. Naabutan niyang may kausap si Gerald sa cell phone.

“Just cancel all my appointments for two days. And please coordinate with Fred’s secretary for Sarah’s three days leave. I’ll just give Fred a call later and explained everything. That’s all. Thank you.”

“Who’s that?” she asked when he ended the call.

“It’s Nhila. By the way, be prepared in 10 minutes. We’ll be doing a mountain trekking after breakfast. I’ve already contacted someone who can guide us. I want us to enjoy this moment, Babe.”

“Okay.”

THE PEACE AND SERENITY of the trees and the running water soothed her nerves while they strode to the walkway. Gerald never leaved her side and held tightly her hands. When they reach the end, she dazed for a while. She saw the hanging bridge. She felt a little bit nervous as she looked it. It was so high and she is damn sure that it would move in every step they’ll make.
