Chapter 14

Sarah felt so empty and lonesome that day. It’s been a week since Gerald left for the states.

            “Babe, I’ll be leaving first thing in the morning tomorrow. I need to attend with some important matters concerning our business there.” Paalam ni Gerald.

 

            “How long will you be there?” hindi pa man nakakaalis ang kasintahan ay name-miss na niya ito.

 

            “I’ll be gone for 2 to 3 weeks, Babe.”

 

            “I will miss you…” sabi niya kay Gerald at sumandal sa dibdib nito.

 

            “I will miss you, too, sweety..”

 

Today is her 25th birthday. She understands that Gerald is a busy person but she can’t help to be sad.

 

He didn’t remember that today is my birthday. He didn’t even call me. Ano ka ba Sarah, baka busy lang siya don sa states ngayon. Malungkot na bulong niya sa sarili. Nagulat siya ng biglang nag-ring ang cellphone niya. It was unknown number. She is hesitant to take the call but after a few rings she answered it.

“Hello.”

“Hija, Tita Vangie here. I would like to invite you for a dinner later.”

“Thank you for the invitation, Tita. But---“

Mommy Vangie cut her off. “No buts and if’s, Hija. Ipapasundo kita diyan.”

“Okay po, Tita.”

“It’s settled then. Just wait at the parking area later, okay? Bye, Hija.”

“Bye po.”

After office hours, bumaba na si Sarah sa parking area. Nakita niya kagad ang sasakyan ni Gerald. Papalapit na siya nang makitang bumaba si Ken sa kotse at pinagbukas siya ng pinto.

“Hi Sarah! Hop in.” nakangiting bati nito sa kanya.

“Oh, hi Ken. I thought si Jalal ang susundo sa akin.” Sabi ni Sarah ng makapasok na.

“May importante lang siyang nilakad.” Matipid na sagot nito tapos napangiti.

After some time, they stopped at the main entrance of the house.

“Let’s get in..” nakangiting sabi ni Ken at inalalayan siya papasok.

She can’t explain why she felt the sudden excitement and nervous at the same time as they entered the house. They walked through the poolside and were surprised with what she saw. Pakiramdam niya ay sasabog ang puso niya sa sobrang kaligayahan. She never expected this surprise party. Gerald’s friends were also there. Nakangiting sinalubong siya ng bati ng mga ito. Niyakap at hinalikan naman siya sa pisngi ni Mommy Vangie. Naiyak na siya ng tuluyan ng makita ang mga magulang. Napatakbo siya sa mga ito.
