One day, I was in the kitchen stacking the dishwasher when the front door burst open and Wybie came in.

"Morning" he said with a wide grin.

"Its two in the afternoon Wybie" I replied with a laugh.

"Oh, right" he replied and sat at the table.

"So what brings you here?" I asked.

"I'm bored out of my mind. Can we please go on a walk?" he asked with a pleading look.

"Well I have to finish cleaning but sure, we can go on a walk" I replied.

Once I finished with the dishes, I put my gumboots on and Wybie and I made our way up the hill that led to the orchard. There were apples all over the tree and Wybie jumped up and grabbed a few.

"Here" Wybie said and chucked an apple to me.

"Thank you" I replied as I began eating the apple.

While we walked, we talked. We were so distracted that I didn't notice we were at the well.

"Oh..." Wybie said as he noticed the well.

"Can we turn around?" I asked as fear came over me.

"Come on Coraline. Its been five years since that happened. If that thing wanted to come back and finish the job, she would've done it already" Wybie replied as he walked over to the well.

"Wybie stop it" I said as he began lifting up the heavy wood cover.

"Its okay, Coraline" he replied and pushed the lid off.

After a moment of hesitation, I walked over to the well. I'd never really gotten to look inside properly. As I stared down into the depths, I noticed how familiar it looked.

"Oh my gosh..." I said as my eyes widened in horror.

"What?" Wybie asked in concern and placed a hand on my shoulder.

"The well...its the same as the portal behind the door..." I said in shock.

"So the wells a portal?' Wybie asked.

"I'm not one hundred percent sure but if it is...then we gave the Beldam her hand and the key" I said as I began to feel nauseous.

"Hey" Wybie said as he noticed the color leave my face. "Lets get you home" he said.

Wybie put my arm around his shoulder and pushed the lid back on top of the well with his foot. We walked back to the Pink Palace and went inside.

"Coraline, its okay. Its probably just a coincidence" Wybie said.

"I don't think so Wybie. I think it's a portal.." I replied.

"Come3 on, lets go out to the garden. It'll calm your nerves" Wybie said and led me out to the garden.

We were sitting on the bench in the garden and Wybie was asking me questions so he could distract me from the whole portal situation.

As we were talking, Mr. Bobinsky called out from the ledge of his apartment.

"Caroline! Do you two need help with the garden?" he called out before doing a flip and landing on the ground.

"Once again my names Coraline" I laughed.

"Ah yes! I must always forget! Always busy training the mice!" Mr. Bobinsky said.

"How are they?" I asked.

"They're good. I have given up on the Jumping Mice Circus. The silly little mice do not want to learn at all" Mr. Bobinsky replied.

"Oh thats a shame. I was so sure that they'd finally learn" I said. "If you ever need me to take care of them, I'd love to" I added.

"Why thank you, Caroline. Mr. Lovat you have yourself a good girl right here" he motioned towards me.

"She isn't...were not..." Wybie stammered as he went pink in the face.

"Whatever you say" Mr. Bobinsky said with a laugh. He did a massive jump and landed on the railing outside his door and went inside.

Wybie and I started walking through the garden when I noticed that one of the few rays of sunlight was reflecting off something. I walked over to it and noticed that the clouds were forming a swirling sky. I remember it being like that when I first found the well.

I looked at the object and realized it was a button. Fear gripped me as I stared at the jet black button that was peaking out of the dirt. I backed away from it and ran to Wybie.

"What is it Jonesy?" He asked me. I pointed to the button and a look of fear replaced his smile.

"Why is a button in the garden?" I asked as I looked at Wybie

"I don't know but we're about to find out" he said as he began walking over to it.
