The White Queen and the Red Queen were not the best of sisters. They did not get along well. When their father, the previous King took sides. He saw the White Queen as his favourite.
It was true that the sisters did not get along and had quarrels. The White Queen being the youngest always getting her way and the Red Queen feeling it was beyond unfair. Yet, even so they did not really hate each other. The White Queen still held a soft spot in her heart for her older sister even with all the mayhem she caused when they were younger.
The King, labeling the Red Queen unworthy to handle the huge responsibility of proclaiming the thrown, due to her horrible outbursts and temper, decided to pass it to her sister and although she was not happy with this decision she let her have her way as always. The White Queen still however, felt sorry for her older sister and thought that the least she could do was allow her sister to have a kingdom of her own and so was the beginning of the two kingdoms in Underland.
These kingdoms were quite powerful and both sisters ruled the lands in their own way. Although, the Red Queen did not have full power over everything, she was still content with the small amount of power she had. They ruled differently and the White Queen questioned her sister's ways of ruling although, she felt it wasn't her place to say.
The Red Queen ruled with an iron fist, instilling fear into her people. This was her strategy to stay in power, her belief that it was better to be feared than to be loved as she felt many would not take her seriously if she ruled like her sister. Her sister, the White Queen, was more lenient and kind hearted than she was.
They both ruled and their lands were at peace that is until a troublemaker came along.
