"Mom?" I called out, slumping on the couch. She probably didn't hear me but I could smell something delicious being cooked in the kitchen. "Mmmm..." I hummed to myself. "That smells good." The smell of cooked rice hit my nose and she probably made gravy. "Sweet and sour chicken?" I questioned as I walked towards the kitchen entrance but still no answer.

My mom was probably going to scold me for entering the kitchen in my school uniform like she often did but I was too hungry to change. My stomach was already growling and my mouth was probably already drooling by now. That chicken smelt so good.

I walked in the kitchen ready to hear my moms annoyed voice, telling me to go change as usual, but as I entered I saw that she wasn't there and a bowl of food which seemed as though it was just cooked, because of the steam raising from it, was placed on the wooden counter top with a small note beside it.

I went to the store quickly
to stock up on groceries.
We out of vegies. I'll be an
hour tops but if I'm not
back by then don't forget
to lock up. I have the extra
key so I'll be able to unlock.

                          Love, mom.

"Is the food for me?" I questioned, holding the note in my hand and raising an eyebrow, as if I was expecting a response from it. It was almost as though I thought my mother would be able to talk to me through the note like one of those letters in Harry Potter. She said nothing about who the food was for but I'm assuming it was for me since she did place the note next to it.

"Where are the chopsticks?" I questioned out loud as I rummaged through the top drawer that was next to the oven. "Ah, there you are." I said once I found them in that mess of a drawer. I plopped myself down on the stool by the counter and began digging in. Mom wasn't here so I didn't have to change first. I could stuff my face and then change when I'm done.

Once I was done gulping the food down I got up and dropped my bowl in the sink. "Mmmm, I'm full now." I said to myself as I turned on the tap to rinse out the bowl and looked out the kitchen window by the sink. It had started to rain. I saw lightning shoot, hitting the ground and then I heard the loud boom of thunder.

I hope mom's okay, I thought to myself. I hope she didn't get caught in the rain. She most probably did though given that she still wasn't back, yet. Going upstairs, I went to my room and changed out of my school uniform. I put on my oversized, powder blue, super comfortable jersey that was hanging over my light grey tracksuit pants. "Nothing beats feeling cosy." I said as I walked downstairs and plopped myself on the couch again.

It was going for an hour so after scrolling through my phone, for quite sometime, I got up and went to lock the front door like my mom had instructed since she still wasn't back.

"Gosh it's chilly." I said to myself as I got a blanket from my room and brought it back with me to the couch, covering myself with it. I didn't bother putting on the TV so I just scrolled through my phone until my eyes got tired of the white screen and I eventually dozed off.
