Radley didn't get attached to people easily. Some people he hated immediately, and never grew to care for them. Some he could actually start to care for, instead of despising them forever. And some people he would immediately like after just one conversation. Radlynn was an example of this. He cared about her more than he wanted to, not that he'd ever tell anyone. He grew accustomed to waking up and seeing her still asleep on his couch, or sitting at the kitchen table eating some cereal. It was kind of comforting, knowing she'd always be around. Of course the thought terrified him as well, but still.
So when he left his bedroom one morning, feeling surprisingly optimistic about the day, he was confused when he didn't immediately see Radlynn. The blankets she slept with had been discarded carelessly, much to Radley's annoyance, and the kitchen table was bare. He frowned and busied himself with cleaning up the blankets. "She must be showering." He thought. Yeah, that made sense.
He made breakfast, bacon and eggs, and waited patiently for the bathroom door to open. But it didn't. He frowned, worry starting to nag the back of his mind. He moved over to the bathroom door and leaned against it. Silence. He couldn't hear a single drop of water coming from the shower. He inhaled sharply and opened the door. "Oh thank god it's empty-"
"...oh dear god it's empty."
He checked his bedroom, just to be sure she hadn't snuck in there without him noticing, then the lab. At this point he would've been glad she was in there, even though he'd rather die than let her see what he kept in there.
So she was gone. The worry had turned into panic now. She had to be out in the caverns somewhere. What if she got lost? What if someone attacked her? What if- what if someone broke into his house during the night and kidnapped her?!
Radley hurriedly put his coat on, grabbed his keys, and left the house. He didn't bother locking the door behind him, wasn't like there was anything valuable in there right now. He walked quickly through the caves, eyes darting every which way in hopes of spotting her.
A flash of movement caught his attention. He stepped towards whatever it was. "Hello?" Please be Radlynn please be Radlynn please be Rad-
One of the many cookie doughmen that inhabited the caves poked its head out from behind a rock, then stepped out completely. It looked relaxed, now that it knew it was Radley and not something else. "Hello sir!" He chirped. Radley quickly walked over to his employ- no, former employee. He'd given up on his plans and didn't need them anymore. "I haven't seen you in a long while, though I suppose I do live on the opposite side of the caves...still! It's lovely to see you again."
"Yes, hello Timothy-" Radley murmured back quickly.
"Terry, actually."
"Oh, sorry." The doughman arched a brow at the way Radley shifted on his feet anxiously.
"Is something wrong, sir? Say the word and we'll take care of it!" He asked, trying to stay chipper. Radley seemed to brighten up.
"I'm looking for someone- a human. You haven't um- haven't seen her, have you?"
"OH! The human! Yeah, I saw her! I thought it was just rumors that you were keeping one but I watched the guys throw her in a cage with my own two eyes!" Terry replied.
"You did what?!" Radley was horrified. A cage?! Oh god, poor Radlynn was probably scared for her life right now! "Where?! Is she hurt?!"
Terry looked surprised at his employer's tone. "She's not getting loose, I'll tell you that." He said, hoping that'd make Radley relax. "They tried not to scratch her up too bad, we know you probably want her healthy for whatever you're doing."
