I lazily open my eyes, drifting in and out of consciousness. The sunlight playing in my room, dancing along the edge of the opened letter, I smile. I hear a soft, quick, harsh knock. Trudging down the stairs I take a quick peek through the window. James. My head goes dizzy and my legs give way, letting my body drop to the ground. At the very last moment I see James look at me through the window.
My eyes open to the dark room, adjusting, I notice James on the edge of the couch. He notices me "I didn't mean to scare you." "What on earth are you doing here?! Alex is going to kill you!" He looks over, defeated "So you're dating him now?" "What does it matter to you?" He covers his face with his hands, whispering "Because I love you. I always did. I was going to ask you the next day but then everything changed." I can't bring myself to look at him. "Yes I am" I walk up the stairs not sure what or how he will react. I can see the glint of torture in his eyes, he wants to hurt me but he isn't. His fighting it. I know a way I can get him to overcome it but it will include being unfaithful to Alex. I walk over to him, sitting on the couch. He looks at me curiously. "Don..." I interrupt him placing a finger to his lips "shhh". I lean in touching my lips to his, he runs his hand through my hair tangling it in his fingers, my hands around his neck, I feel the tingling stronger than ever as it runs through my bloodstream spreading like fire, all starting from my heart, I begin to lose my focus, his arms captivating me in a shield of protection. Is this who I should be with? I know when he passes because he abruptly pulls away "What about Alex?" "I know, but I didn't want to lose you again. I couldn't think of anything else to do." I begin to cry "What have I got myself into?" He places his arm around me "Ally, you only like me as a friend, you love him." I see him cringe. I know he could feel it, I wasn't just imagining it. "You know that's a lie." I whisper, looking up. There was no need for an answer, his eyes said it all. 'Your right that was the single most amazing moment of my life.' His lips open "My biggest regret is hurting you, I want you to know that I would never want to do that to you, it broke me when you moved, not only that but the fact it was me." I give him a hug, soaking in his smell. "You better go back to school..." I pause "How did you get in?" He smirks "I was your best friend remember? I do know where the key is kept." I can't help but smile. He hops up off the lounge and out the door.
*SKIPS TO TOMORROW*
I run into the gates seeing Alex's smiling face. He picks me up by the waist placing a short kiss on my lips. I can't help but feel how wrong this is, how much energy it lacks, how much I know I should be with James. "Good morning." I smile. James runs up from behind, I was the only one who could tell he'd been crying. Alex let's go of me and I go and give him a hug, it just feels so right be in his arms.
What have I done?
