Chapter 1
The world is ending. This is a new one.
April 2nd, 2010
Life is a gift. Destiny is what you make of it. But what if you couldn’t chose it anymore? What if you didn’t control your own life anymore? That’s what I’m here for. To change everything.
I am Saturn Rose Kahile.
Ruler of the Defendence.
I was five years old when Alex Hamilton was elected world leader. He promised to bring world peace. To stop war and violence. I remember sneaking out of bed every night and listening to my mom and dad talk about Alex.
‘ What should we do, Alex is………” my mother squeaked to my father.
She couldn’t even finish her sentence. I knew, my mom was scared and she was never scared, she was the bravest woman I had ever met. Her flowing jet black hair was tied back in a tight French braid that snaked down from the top of her head down to the end of her back. Her stunning green eyes popped out at you and gave you a quizzical look. The sparkle I had come to love had slowly disappeared day after day until it was gone all together. She never smiled anymore. Being a daughter and at the age of five not being able to see your own mother smile was heartbreaking.
“ Don’t think like that Eve. Don’t let him rule your life. I will not lose you again.”
June 9th , 1987
My mother Eve and my father John had just began their long journey to spending the rest of their lives together. They were sitting on a long black bench, the ones you couldn’t possibly get comfortable on. My father slowly moved closer to her. She slowly moved closer to him. Then at exactly the same moment, they both leaned in so they were nose to nose, filling in the gap between them
This marked the day when they would mentally decide whether they loved each other or were only friends. They picked love. The young couple stood up and walked together down the road. Not interested in anything but each other. They went to my meet my mother’s parents.
When they entered the dark and dank living room filled with only a couch and small television, the only person who occupied the room was my grandmother, who in later years I would come to hate. My mother would never admit to anyone how she truly felt about her mother. Everyone just thought she loved her, like every daughter loves their mother.
My grandmother’s name was Rachel, which she hated it so demanded to be called Chelsea. Chelsea pulled the rusty silver chain to the lamp on. She glared up at my mother and father.
“Where have you been?” Chelsea spit at Eve.
“Out with John mother.” Eve muttered.
“What did I tell you?” my grandma said through gritted teeth.
“ Mother, I just can’t stand to be apart from him. I have told you and told you but you won’t listen. I love John and there is nothing you can do to change that.” my mother explained.
“There are many things I can do to change that Eve and you know it. No offense to you John but I don’t want you seeing my daughter.” Chelsea stated, plain and simple.
John stood there, silently deciding what to do. He moved his eyes from Eve to Chelsea. “OK” he said. “I will respect that. After all, you are her mother and you know more about her than I do."
“Thank you, John. At least one person can understand how I feel. Eve, please show John the door.
Eve didn’t move.
