I stood there, hands shaking, mind racing, eyes glues to him.

"No." I managed to croak, "NO, NO. THIS ISN'T REAL, HE ISN'T REAL!" I shouted.

But I was lying to myself, trying to make it all go away. Memories flashed before my eyes, painful memories. I struggled to breathe as I ran out the door, past the car, and down to the lake behind the house. I ran all along the sand, until my knees gave out and I collapsed, burying my face in my hands. Eight years of forgetting was wasted as I sobbed those horrible times back into my life.

I heard labored breathing as someone struggled to come to my rescue. But I didn't want rescuing. I wasn't ready to see anyone, let alone have a conversation. I needed to think. The only one that understood was mom.I knew it was her as soon as she laid an understanding hand on my shoulder. She lifted me up by the arms, and half carried, half dragged me to the car, Dad already in   the diver's seat. Engine started, face grim. Then we drove, and drove, and drove until we came to my favorite spot.

When I was little, I used to come here with my parents to forget everything. It was a big hill, covered with long grasses and purple and yellow  flowers. I would lay here, listening to the sounds, gazing up at the sky, forgetting. It was exactly what I needed right now.

I ran to the top, lost in my own sorrow. I stared down at the view, taking it all in. I sat crossed legged, breathing in and out. I finally leaned back, closing my eyes and stretching my limbs. I finally felt like I was free. Free from life, and everything holding me back. It was the greatest feeling in the world. I had missed it. The birds chirping, breeze blowing, sun shining. It was a place made by God, just for me.

I had dreamed of building a house here, having a  family, a husband that loved me. I smiled at the thought.  But then my smile faded as I thought of what the world had come to. Alex would destroy all my dreams,  like he had already done to so many people.

More bad thoughts came flooding back.  Alex, David, Ian, and Jester. That evil and wicked man ruined my entire life. My anger boiled, forcing my eyes open, and my body up off the ground. I stormed over to my mom.

"How?" I demanded, glaring intensely into her eyes.

She sighed deeply. "I don't know."

"Did he know?" I pushed.

"Did who know?" she questioned.

"The Fortune. Did he know?" I snapped impatiently.

"Yes." my father whispered.

I whipped my head towards him.

"Yes." he repeated. "He knew all along. I knew I shouldn't have taken you. I knew, and it's my fault. I could have prevented this." he mumbled to himself.

Tears threatened to escape my eyes. "Dad, you didn't know, it's not your fault." I said sternly.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that." came a booming voice,  interrupting my father.

I tensed, ready and on guard.

"Jester." I growled.

"Yes love?' he questioned cheerily.

"Never call me love." I spat at him.

He took a step back, fearfully.

I smirked. Look who's afraid now.

My father stepped between us.

"That's right, protect the mistake." he laughed.

His words hit me like a punch to the gut.

***FLASHBACK TO EIGHT YEARS AGO***

"She is my daughter." my mom sobbed.

"No, she is a mistake, our mistake. She was never meant to be born. It was an accident." the Jester screamed at her.

"I'm so glad I didn't marry you." my mother spat.

"Now why is that?" he asked sarcastically.

"So I can leave forever with nothing holding me back." she replied, venom and hate dripping with every word.

"Good. So take our good for nothing daughter out of my face and never come back." he demanded, stabbing his finger in the direction of the door.

She sighed with relief, glad she didn't have to put up a fight.

***BACK TO PRESENT****

Tears were falling down my cheeks. It took all I had not to sob again. I thought again about that day when we left him. That was the day that I turned ten.

I would never understand why it had happened, why he turned into a monster, and why my mother had fallen for him. It just didn't make any sense. There was no way this man was my father. He just couldn't be. Ian had been born first, but Jester liked Ian. Then, when I came along, everything changed. Maybe he was a different man when I wasn't alive, but all I knew him to be was cruel.

When my mother had left that day, we packed our things and moved into her mother's house until we could afford our own place. She had been caring and understood what we were going through. She helped me forget him. Shortly after we moved in, she called John, and they reunited after 6 years. He became my father. He taught me everything I know. Jester had been completely erased from my head, until now.

My father turned to me. "Saturn, what's wrong?" he asked, sincere.

"I want to leave, I can't deal with him, I never want to see him again." I managed to say.

Everyone knew who I was talking about. If I spent another minute with Jester, I would attack him.

We all turned to walk back down the hill, until we came face to face with David and the Fortune. This was not going to turn out well, someone is going to get hurt.
