Chapter nineteen

Ducking down to an alleyway, Chat expected his partner to keep running on the rooftops overhead like she usually did when they went to detransform. "Bugaboo, what're you doing here, aren't you about to detransform?" He asks, looking over at his friend who sets the excited puppy down. "Yep." She says casually. "And you're fine with detransforming in front of me?" He asks, his jaw hanging open. "You'll see in a minute you pesky cat." She says with a grin and successfully gets the dog to sit down.

"Tikki, spots off." She says with a sigh, to be entirely truthful she was absolutely terrified. She didn't want Chat to hate her because she kept her identity a secret. Looking over at him she noticed his eyes were closed and covered by his gloved hands. Shakily walking over to him, she gently grabbed his wrists and uncovered his eyes. "Chat, I'm giving you permission to open your eyes." She says, feeling Tikki land and sit on her head, both waiting patiently for their lovers to come out of hiding.

Slowly but surely, Adrien opens his eyes as his transformation unleashes and Plagg zips over and tackles Tikki in the air. "Sugarcube!" He exclaims as Adrien is left speechless. "Princess?" He asks, his eyes wide and his jaw hanging open loosely. "What's up Kitty?" She asks with a giggle. Suddenly Adrien lifts her up high, spinning her in the air as they both laugh. Setting her down, he pulls her close and kisses her forehead repeatedly.

"Adrien!" She giggles and laughs. "How did I not know it was you? It couldn't have been anyone but you! Mari you're amazing, you know that?" He exclaims and laughs incredulously. "I'm so sorry that I kept it a secret, I love you too Chat." She says and they hold onto each other. "It's alright M'lady. To think, I fell for the same girl, twice! For a black cat I'd say I'm purrety lucky." He says and holds her tighter. "Marinette? Adrien? Mari- Marinette! There you are!" Ayla exclaims, rubbing into the alley and seeing Adrien holding Marinette.

"What's wrong Alya?" He asks, seeing the fear plastered on the reporter's face. "It's Luka! He's been akumatized!" She exclaims, a small and orange ball in her arms peeking its blackberry eyed head out to take a peak at the friends of its new owner. Giving each other a quick look and a sharp nod, Marinette picks up the puppy she'd chosen to adopt and grabs some rope, tying it around the pup's collar and handing the other end to Alya. "Quick, take him and get to safety, go to the bakery, we'll meet you there." She says with confidence, looking over her shoulder at her best friend and partner who has his arms crossed and a look of confidence.

"Wait- where are you two going?" She asks as they run past her, both sporting excited grins. Jumping over trashcans and benches, they transform in an open alley, facing each other after stopping and calling upon their fueled up kwamis. "See you on the other side." Chat says, kissing Marinette on the forehead and vaulting onto the building behind him, Marinette using her yo-yo to grab onto a chimney stack and swing onto the roof of the house opposite to the one Chat jumped on.

Both of them sprinting to a flower and vine covered Eiffel Tower. "Are you ready M'lady?" Chat asks, Lansing next to her on the ground, both staring up at their akumatized friend who stands at the very top ominously. "As ready as I'll ever be. C'mon, let's go save Luka." She answers, a calming look crossing over her face as the raging beast in her heart is knocked to the side, knowing that the very person she loves is also the guy she used to crush on.

Jumping off the roof, both leap into action together, never leaving each other's side again. This is their city. This is their friendship. This is their love story.
