When Marinette got home, getting past her friends and family and the school staff with fake smiles and sad laughs, she had locked herself in her silent room. Well it would've been silent had it not been for her sobbing. Tikki helped though, just by being there Marinette felt safer, she truly loved her ancient best friend. Maybe that's why she fell asleep, maybe that's why she was immediately plagued by a nightmare.
Marinette didn't know, all she knew was that she wanted it to stop, right then and there.
"Princess, why?" Dream Chat had asked quietly, refusing to look Marinette in the eyes as he stared at her friend's dead bodies. Marinette didn't speak, she couldn't even part her lips to apologize. It was then that she had started fighting Chat, eventually winning and stabbing him through the bottom of his chin as he gave her a loving smile and said sorry for failing to save her.
Marinette awoke from the nightmare, somebody holding her and taking all of the punches and flailing she did as fought to wake up. The real Chat had shown up ten minutes ago, wanting to make sure that his Princess was okay before he went on patrol. He didn't think that he'd have to hold her while she suffered through a nightmare like he had. "Chat, Chat no. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." She whispered in her sleep as tears crawled down her face.
Again and again he'd whisper that it's okay and that he's here for her, only for her to keep repeating that. It wasn't until she apologized for killing him did he really try and wake her up rather than just comfort her. "Princess." He'd whisper into her skin as he pulled her further into him, which only caused her to flail and try to escape even more. "Princess, Princess it's alright. It's alright Princess." He whispered into her ear. "I love you Princess." He whispered, glad when she finally woke up near to immediately after having said it.
"Chat?" She asked, sitting up as unshed tears continued to fall with the others. "It's okay Princess, it was all a nightmare." He says quietly, cupping her cheek with his gloved hand. Immediately she pushed herself into him, apologizing to him over and over again. He didn't understand why as he held her. Something in him though, something had him look up at the trapdoor leading to the balcony. There, sitting as its wings slowly flapped, watching was an evil akuma.
He gasped, causing Marinette to pull away as she wiped her tears away only for Chat to push her back into his chest. He would not let Hawkmoth have his Princess. He'd have to take her out of his cold dead hands. "It's okay Marinette. I don't know why you're crying but it's okay. Just think happy thoughts." He said angrily as he stared at the damned bug.
Marinette moves her head and looked at the butterfly, gasping horrifically and gripping her hair, muttering no angrily under her breath over and over and over again. Forcing herself to breath in and out she forced herself to calm down, telling herself she had no right to cry. Someone like her had no place crying. Others had it worse so how dare she cry.
This, for some insane reason, seemed to calm her down. Or at least stable her emotions. Normally the sight of the evil butterflies wouldn't bother her, but after that dream she didn't want to see anything about them. "Chat, it's okay Kitty. I'm fine." She says breathlessly and Chat looks back up at the now missing butterfly. "Princes you aren't fi-" Chat said, scooting closer to her before Marinette stopped him, holding her hand out at him, pressing it into his chest open-palmed.
"Chat, I'm fine. Please leave." She said, her voice hardened. "Princess what's wrong?" Chat presses, moving until Marinette's hand forcefully stopped him. "Nothing Chat." She continued on. "Marinette please tell me, maybe I can he-" "You can't help a villain Chat!" She exclaimed. "I got Kagami akumatized! I ruined Kagami and Adrien's relationship! I got Lyla sent to the principal's office! I was so mean and rude to everyone! Whenever I see an akuma near me I talk to it! I don't make an effort to run away! I fucking converse with the damn enemy! Hell you have a girlfriend and yet you come and stay with me and visit me because you know that I'm going to be akumatized! You know that I'm a horrible pers-"
Chat cut her off with a soft kiss to the lips. "Plagg, class in." He had said right before kissing her, his transformation letting up as he pulled away. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng, you didn't ruin my relationship. You freed me. You didn't put Lyla in the principal's office, she put herself there. You weren't mean or rude, you needed time to yourself. You talk to akumas because you know that nobody deserves to be treated badly, even an akuma. And you didn't get Kagami akumatized, we did. Finally, I don't visit you because you're a horrible person or because I know you'll be akumatized, I visit you because I love you.
"I love you Marinette Dupain-Cheng, and I'm sorry for how horrible I made you feel." Adrien said with a smile, staring at Marinette in the jacket she gave him, the jacket she gave to her Kitty.
