As if it was trying to bring down my current happy mood, I woke up to the sound of rain pounding on my bedroom window. I sighed as I climbed out of bed and slowly made my way to the window to open the curtains. Once opened I glanced out of my window; it was pouring down so much water droplets bounced off of the concrete outside and was forming huge puddles and small streams.
I turned from my window to go to my wardrobe and got out my School clothes. I decided it would be best to wear trousers instead of a skirt. Then after I had finished getting ready I made my way out of my room and downstairs.
Before I even reached the bottom, the smell of pancakes and syrup drifted my way and entered my nose, making me utter a quiet, "yum."
I reached the bottom when I saw my brother near the front door. "There's a letter for you," he said while walking towards me with a pile of letters in his hands.
He held out a letter to me, and I took it. Then he went to the kitchen but I remained there opening my letter. Slowly I opened it and saw the header at the top. My eagerness to open had suddenly been replaced with a sudden urge to swallow and I ran to the kitchen clasping the letter in my hand.
"I can't. I can't read it, " I stuttered holding out the letter.
"Why? Who's it from, love?" My mum asked me.
"From a school," I answered.
"Which School?"
"Clearwater's Institute, " I struggled to get out.
"Hand it here. Let me look." I handed her it so she could read it instead.
As she read it I stood there holding my breath.
"They said they were impressed with your statement and your predicted grades that they'd like to invite you to an open day and to take their entrance exam, " she told me. That was good news. All I had to do was get my predicted grades and ace my entrance exam. Bad news though I now had even more revision to do if I stood a chance at getting into Clearwater's Institute For Heroes.
I took the letter from my mum to read over it myself.
I finished my pancakes just as there was a knock on the door. It must be Liam and Sophie. The three of us always walked to school together ever since our first day at high school. "See you later," I said running to the door and grabbing my bag on the way.
"Hey," I said and shut the door behind me.
"Heard anything back from any hero schools yet?" Sophie asked me.
A giant smile filled my reply with joy. "Yes, Clearwater's Institute," I told her.
"Us too, " beamed Liam.
"Let's hope the three of us get in, " prayed his sister.
We arrived at school, and the front gates were packed full of students because no one had entered the building yet. There were still a few minutes
As we made our way into the carpark a boy jumped in front of us. I think his name was Oliver, and he was always bullying Liam. Telling the teacher hadn't seemed to do anything because he still called him names and tried to steal his lunch.
"Got anything for my lunch today, nerd?" He demanded.
"No, I don't. I never do. I only have food for myself," Liam answered and Oliver pulled his bag from his shoulder.
Liam's effort to grab it back from him was unsuccessful. "Hey, give him it back, " ordered Sophie, pointing her finger at Oliver.
"Awe, do you need your sister to stick up for you?" Oliver mocked and he was about to open Liam's bag when Sam and Peter approached us.
