Just after eating breakfast the next day, my mobile started to ring. I picked it up to answer and saw that it was Sophie calling me. "Hello, " I spoke into the phone.
"Hi, Hanna do you wanna hang out today?" She asked me.
"Sure," I replied.
"Ok, good because I was thinking that maybe we could go shopping. We could go look at prom dresses since it's coming up very fast and neither of us has anything to wear yet," she told me.
That's right we hadn't. We had been too busy applying to hero schools and studying for both High School and for the entrance exam that we would likely have to take at most of the hero schools. "Good, idea."
"So you want to meet at about 1ish?" She wondered.
"Sounds good," I replied.
"All right. Meet at the shopping centre," she suggested.
"Ok," I agreed.
"See you then," she said.
"Yeah, see you. Bye."
"Bye," Sophie spoke back and then ended the call. I placed my phone down on to mum bed and then proceeded to get changed out of my pajamas, to get ready for the day.
I changed into jean shorts and a short-sleeved light purple t-shirt, brushed my brown hair, and then tied just a section of it into a ponytail at the back of my head so that it was sort of in an up-and-down hairstyle. Once I did that I looked into my mirror. I checked my hair, which looked very cute this way, and then I looked at my pale-green eyes. They had black circles under them, and due to the stress I had been facing recently, I hadn't been sleeping all too well. However, that didn't affect my cute looks.
Then I grabbed my foundation and applied it. Once it was all blended in I checked myself in the mirror again. The circles were less noticeable now. Happy with how I looked, I picked up my mobile and headed downstairs.
I went to go get my bag which I had left hung up on the hooks near the front door and placed my phone inside. Before leaving I called bye to my family and then walked outside. I closed the door behind me and then walked out of the garden, down the street towards the bus stop.
About 30mins later my bus pulled up near the shopping centre as I got off, muttering a "thank you," to the bus driver. After a few steps I reached the centre, so I stopped near the entrance and waited for Sophie to show up.
Deciding to text her to let her know I was there, I pulled out my phone and messaged her. Once I did that I put it away.
2 mins later she came skipping up to me. "Hey, Anna," she said waving.
"Hi," I replied, and then we went inside the shopping centre. "Can we grab something to eat before we shop?"
"Sure," she replied and we headed to the nearest shop that sold food. Which was a small little Japanese noodle bar?
We entered, chose what noodles we wanted, paid, and then sat down at one of the tiny tables to eat. "Do you know, your brother asked me out on a date yesterday?" I said after finishing off a fork of noodles.
"Again?" Sophie sighed and I nodded in response. "He never gives up does he?" She added.
"Nope," I replied.
"I can talk to him. Tell him to stop pestering you," she offered.
"No, it's fine really," I told her.
"Sure?"
"Yeah," I answered. Then we both returned to eating.
Once both of us had finished, we put our rubbish in the bin and headed to one of the clothing stores. As we walked we made conversation. "Has your powers come yet?" She asked me.
"No, not yet," I said and she let out an 'oh' sound. "What if they never come? Sometimes that happens. Sometimes the power gene doesn't pass on," I pointed out.
"That happening is a very small chance in your case because both your parents have powers," she explained to me but I knew that. That, however, didn't stop me from being the one in a thousand chance that didn't inherit powers from their hero parents.
"What if I fall under that small percent?" I questioned.
"That's very unlikely and I think you are worrying too much. It's not uncommon for powers to develop a little late. My cousin's powers came late too," she said.
"I suppose you're right," I agreed but that didn't one hundred percent stop my worries.
We entered the shop and went to go found the dresses. When we had found them we looked at them all carefully, picking out any dresses in our sizes that we liked the look of. In the end, I found 3 that I liked and Sophie 4, which we took to the changing rooms to try on.
Sophie had now gone off into an empty one so that left just me to find one. Luckily, I found one at the very bottom of the corridor, so I entered and hung up the dresses on the hooks on the wall. Then I closed the curtain before taking off my shoes, shorts, and a top. The first dress I tried was a long light pink colored dress that almost touched the floor. It had a layered bottom and strapped top. The fabric was light and flowing, and had small little sparkles within it.
Once it was on I checked it out in the mirror and instantly fell in love with it but I still had yet to try on the other two, so I took it off. After trying on the other two dresses, I was certain I wanted them.
I made sure all the dresses were on the hangers correctly and then got changed back into my clothes. Then I picked up the dresses and went out.
As I went suddenly I was hit by an array of different voices or thoughts that weren't my own, but none we distinctive enough to make out. It worried me because it never happened before and I thought that maybe I was going crazy from stress, but when I shook my head they disappeared. Unsure what it was I stepped away from the changing room area and glanced around looking for my friend.
However, Sophie was still in the changing room by the looks of it, so I waited for her. Not that long after she came out and both of us returned the dresses we didn't want and the ones that we did want we went to go pay for them.
The one Sophie had chosen was a short dark blue dress with off-the-shoulder straps.
Once they were paid for out of the money we had been saving up and the money our parents had given us for our weekly pocket money, we went to go look for some matching shoes.
After that was done we just hung out for a little while, before heading home and when I got home the first thing I did was hang up my dress in my wardrobe. I then headed downstairs to have dinner and when I was full I went back up to my room to study for my school exams. Which was even more important to my future than before because it seemed like my powers weren't ever going to come.
