Officer Leary followed Rachel. She exited the Cooper and went inside. He parked his car behind the Cooper and exited the vehicle. He dialed Fraser.
."I'll have another officer go over to the house," Fraser said. "I think her boyfriend might be there at some point."
"Fraser, you sure?" Officer Leary asked. "You know I could simply bring her into the station and you can question her there."
"No," Fraser said. "I don't want that. Plus, I want to this matter in my own hands. I buried Sheila several days ago, Leary. I don't want Chief Clancy's hands involved in this, do you understand?"
"Yeah, alright," Officer Leary said.
"Alright then, just go home and leave everything for me to handle," Fraser said.
He hung up. Officer Leary got back in his car and drove home. Fraser would come to the house in the hour.
Fraser was finishing a bowl of chicken soup. Emily had a friend over to study, but Fraser decided not to get in involved. He thought about James Taylor and Rachel Carter. The two were most likely Sheila's killers, and if so, Fraser was surely going to have his way with them.
Fraser didn't want justice. He wanted retribution.
