When I walked into work the next day, Eric shot me a huge smile from across the room. "Good morning, Ms. Social Butterfly," he smirked at me."Morning Eric," I smiled back. I wasn't sure about my feelings when it came to Eric. He seemed like a nice guy, and he must like me, since he asked me out on a date. At the same time, he was the guy who was hitting on Margaux less than a week ago. Was he just a player, or would he actually commit to a long term relationship? I guess I wouldn't know until our date.
I definitely didn't have much experience with boys. Sure, I had a few flings when I was a bit younger, but when I became focused on my job it became clear I didn't have enough time for both. That was partly why I wanted to have a sleepover with Margaux and Bria... I wanted to have their opinion on Eric.
"Yo, earth to Cassidy," Eric snapped his fingers.
"Yes, yes, what is it?"
Eric smirked again. Was that the only face he could make? "Are you going to put your apron on?"
"I was getting to that." I rolled my eyes and headed towards the staff room. Gosh, was this what flirting was like? Geez, it took a lot more effort than I thought. How did Spencer and Margaux make it look so easy?
I re-entered the main area of the shop, clad in my cow-spotted apron. Eric was already serving a customer, so I leaned against the back counter with my arms crossed, watching him. He scooped ice cream for two small cones with ease and rang them up on the cash. After the customers paid and left, he turned around to face me, and smirked when he noticed I'd been watching him. I blushed and looked away, except there wasn't much to look at besides the safety posters on the walls ordering us to wash our hands frequently.
"So, what are your plans tonight?" His voice drew my eyes back to his.
"Why do you want to know? Planning on crashing?"
He rolled his eyes. "Oh no, you foiled my plans," he cried sarcastically. "Of course not. I was just making conversation."
"Well, I'm having a sleepover with my friends. One of them I think you met-you remember Margaux, right? The girl you were hitting on while her boyfriend stood right beside her?"
Now it was Eric's turn to blush. "Oh, um... Well..."
He was saved by the bell. Well, the bell that went off whenever someone entered or exited the store. Nobody wants a random customer to know their personal business.
"I've got this one," I glanced pointedly at Eric, knowing he would need a little time to compose himself. He nodded and headed in the direction of the staff room.
I took a deep breath and plastered a smile on my face as I got my ice cream scoop ready.
"How can I help you?"
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>"Oh my gosh!" Bria squealed. "I am so excited for tonight. Do you know how much fun this is going to be?"
"Um... A lot?" I guessed, unsure of what Bria was trying to get at.
Margaux flopped out on my living room couch. "More than a lot. It's going to be the most fun ever!"
"I know! I mean a sleepover with Cassidy, the Cassidy Clark. I don't think anybody's done that since preschool!"
I rolled my eyes. "Oh, shut up you guys."
"What, afraid to admit the truth?" Bria wiggled her eyebrows and rolled over so that she was copying my position, laying on the sleeping bags and supporting my head in my hands.
