"What the fuck?" I panicked, surveying the area around me. I cautiously stepped out of the truck and headed up the walk way nervously with "Auntie B" in one hand and flashlight in the other. Darkness covered the inside of the house making hard for me to see as I wandered inside. Halfway into the living room, I almost busted my ass on what I thought was a duffle bag full of clothes. Pointing the flashlight at the ground, I jumped back when I realized it was a person I almost stepped on.Kneeling down, "Hey...Hey." I nudged them on their leg. "You okay?" Whispering.
No response.
I stood back up and aimed the light on their motionless body, blood-covered their white t-shirt from the neck down, hinting a hideous act had just taken place here. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I got closer until I could see their face...or the lack thereof. Their face was completely shot off leaving only pieces of the jaw and brain matter around the body. The taste of sweet Teriyaki chicken almost returned for the second coming that I wasn't prepared for.
"Oh my God!" I covered my mouth fighting the nausea. "That's some fucked up shit."
It took me a minute before I continued through the large living room, out my peripheral something shiny caught my attention. Crouching down, I shinned the light on it again and noticed it was a gold chain with a Hamsa pendant.
"I've seen this chain before." I whispered out loud, picking it up and examining it.
After a few minutes, It suddenly hit me like a Mack truck making me drop the chain on the floor in front of me. To confirm, I went back over to the body and checked the inside of their left wrist to see if they had a Gemini symbol. Deep down inside, I hoped it was someone else I slowly took a deep breath and shined the light on their wrist and there in fresh black ink, a Gemini symbol with a halo and devils tail.
"Freddie!!! Nooooo!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.
Moments later, my mother was banging on the door yelling my name. "Neveah....Boom...Boom....Boom...Neveah!"
Checking to see what time it was, "4 clock in the morning, great." I threw the cover off of me and staggered to open my bedroom door almost tripping over one of Athena's toys.
"Fuck is you doing all that screaming for? Somebody better be dead or dying!" She fixed her robe.
"I just had a nightmare that's all." I answered groggily, wiping my eyes.
"Stop watching all them crazy ass show, and maybe you won't have nightmares that will wake me up." She stormed back off to her room, slamming the door.
Athena was standing up in her crib rubbing the sleep out her eyes returning back to the room.
"I see I woke you up too." I said picking her up, she laid her head down on my shoulders and started sucking her thumb. I slowly started rocking side to side to put her back to sleep. Not even ten minutes, she was back to sleep. Instead of laying her back in her crib I placed her down beside me and held her until we both drifted off back to sleep.
Hours later, I was awakened by an 11-month-old hitting me upside my head with her favorite stuff animal, Manny The Dino. That nightmare from the night behind really fucked me up and had my mind all over the place. I couldn't just sit in the house today and not do anything while Freddie could be missing or worse.
I called Mrs. Griggs and asked her if she could keep Athena for the day. It was rude calling last minute but I had to get out and find Freddie.
"Hello." Mrs. Griggs answered on the third ring.
"Hey, Mrs. Griggs," I smiled into the phone, fiddling with my fingers. "I'm sorry for calling you this early but I need a huge favor from you." I nervously asked her.
