Chapter 1 : Choices

Spencer's POV

* Sunday morning *

'Come on mum I'm only going to university it's not that big of a deal' I said. My mum looked at me with wide eyes filled with tears.

'Spencer I'm just so proud of you' she said engulfing me in a hug. I'm definitely going to miss my mum but I'm not going to miss being pressurised into being like my older sister, Melissa. I had pretty much no choice but to become a lawyer like everyone else in my family. Apparently it shows how educated the Hastings family is and it makes us have a good reputation.

The only reason I am actually agreeing to go to Upenn is because my two best friends Hanna and Aria got accepted there too. We have been besties ever since nursery and have been inseparable ever since. We are super excited for starting a new chapter in our lives and best of all together. They are the only ones who have been there for me my entire life especially when my anxiety began.

I would experience numerous panic attacks due to the amount of stress my parents were putting on me. It took a major toll on my mental health too but thankfully it stopped after I had finished high school. I mean I do have that constant fear of it returning once I begin university but I try my hardest not to let it bother me.

'Thanks mum I'm going to miss you' I say hugging her back tightly. Me and my mum haven't had the closest relationship but I'm just thankful that she tries.

'I'm going to miss you too sweetheart. Just make sure you try your hardest in all your schoolwork and eventually you will become a lawyer along with me, your father and Melissa' she said before pulling away. I internally rolled my eyes at her comment. Of course she'd have to bring up the subject of the whole lawyer business.

'Yeah I will' I say with a fake smile on my face. Next up I give my dad a small hug. It was pretty awkward since we aren't close at all but I mean he's my dad so I do love him.

'I know I don't say this much Spencer but I am truly proud of you' my dad says ruffling my hair. He used to always do that when I was a little girl but he's never done it since. I smiled at the memory.

'Thanks dad' I say pulling my suitcase to the entrance of our large house. I'm definitely nervous going to a completely new environment but I am equally just as excited. I bring my stuff outside and there I see Aria and Hanna waiting for me in my driveway. I say my last goodbyes to my parents and approach the girls.

'Hey Spence you all ready?' Aria asks opening the boot of the car. I nod my head and put all my stuff into the back of Hanna's car. Aria then hops into the back seat of the car whereas I sit at the front next to Hanna.

'Hey Hanna' I say putting on my seatbelt. Hanna is the only one out of the three of us who wanted to drive us to the university so we just agreed. From my house Upenn was fortunately only a thirty minute drive. The radio was playing quietly in the background as Hanna changed from her four inch heels into some more comfortable trainers to drive in.

'Hey Spencer you guys all set?' Hanna replied putting in the location of the university on google maps.

'Yeah we are all ready let's go!' Aria said enthusiastically and Hanna nodded. She reversed the car from the driveway and began following the instructions her phone gave her. After a few minutes I could hear snoring from the backseat of the car and I smirked.

'Of course Aria is already asleep' I say to Hanna and she laughed.

'Yeah I know poor thing gets exhausted from just packing' she replies.
