Chapter 31 : Reality

Spencer's POV

* Adam's dorm room *

I knock once. At first I suspect that no one was going to answer but I am proven wrong when the door opens. It reveals the one person who I gave my heart to.

And the one who broke it.

"Come in." Adam says, moving out the way to allow room for me to enter.

His face is expressionless. If I am being honest I really didn't know what to expect. I don't know if he feels guilty about what he did. I don't know what he wants. That is what is slowly scaring me more and more about being here with him.

I enter the room slowly and take a deep breath. The memory quickly comes rushing back to me.

This is the same room it almost happened.

I try my best to compose myself and take a seat on the bed opposite to Adam. He watches me closely as I do so.

"I didn't think you would come." He speaks honestly, his emerald green eyes staring into mine.

Adam has changed quite a bit during his absence. His body seems more bulky than before and his face is a lot more defined. He no longer looks like some innocent nerd but instead a sporty jock.

"I'm just as surprised as you are." I state back emotionless. "Just say what you wanted to and I'll leave."

"Firstly, I'm sorry. I know that probably means nothing to you but you have to believe that I do feel bad for what happened." He speaks.

I say nothing which causes him to continue.

He takes a deep breath. "Alex told me about you a while before we had met. He told me about his whole plan and I agreed. He is my best friend so I thought I'd help him out. When me and you met, we instantly clicked. After getting to know you I realised that I was developing feelings. Real ones. That wasn't a part of the plan. Once Alex found out he got really mad. That's the reason he went behind my back and almost-"

I cut him off.

"I've heard enough." I whisper whilst hundreds of emotions overcome me.

This was not how I imagined this would go.

"You didn't know about what Alex did to me?" I question wanting some more answers.

"No I promise you I didn't. All he told me was that he wanted help getting a girl back from his past. I had no idea he would do that." Adam claimed.

I sigh, trying not to let my feelings take over.

"I love you Spencer. It's the truth I promise. I wish everyday that I could have realised it sooner but now we can finally be together. I know we can move past this." He assures.

"Stop please." I choke out as several tears make their way down my face.

I stand up.

"You don't just get to decide when you want me Adam. If you really loved me you wouldn't have let me go through what I did."

"Spencer, if I had known I would have stopped Alex. Let's just forget about this whole situation." He insists.

"Forget? I wish that I could forget all of it Adam, but I can't. You broke me. After what happened I was a mess. Where were you then? Where were you when I needed you?" I shout through my tears.

I know I sound like a mad person right now but I honestly don't care.

Adam stays silent.

"Toby was there for me. He was the one who helped me. He is the reason that I escaped that dark place which you and Alex left me in." I pointed out a lot calmer.
