"Please welcome Alyssa. She has signed with us, directly from the Thorns Academy." Coach Parsons says.
"I'm Alyssa. I played for the Thorns Academy, from the year it was founded, four years ago, to just last year. I can play anywhere up top, to defense. I'm 19 and single. So any single ladies," I give my best 'sexy' look, making the team laugh. "I'm excited for this year and playing with y'all."
The team claps and then Coach Parsons announces that we are doing a light practice today, just to get back into the swing of things.
"Go ahead and find a partner, that you want to be with for the rest of the practice."
A beautiful blonde comes my way.
"You want to pair up?" She says.
"S-sure." I studer out.
"Sorry, my name is Maddie, but people call me Po."
"Po. That's a cute nickname." Oh, fuck. I said that?
"Thanks." She says blushing. And holy fuck, she is cute.
---
"Do you have any plans tonight?" Po asks, walking right beside me.
We finished up practice. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a massive thing for her.
"Watching Netflix, but that can wait. Why?"
"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to go to dinner with me?" The green-eyed asks.
"Like a date?"
"Yeah."
I was completely dumbfounded. She sure was forward.
"Okay. Where are we going?"
"That is going to be a surprise."
"What time?"
"I'll pick you up at 7:30-ish. Just text me your address."
"I got you." We exchange numbers and go our separate ways.
---
Snack🍫: I'll be at your house in thirty. Dress casual.
Alyssa: Okay. I can't wait!
Snack🍫: Me to😘
I dress up in Oregon Ducks shirt and my DA tournament hoodie over that. I keep it casual with ripped jeans and Air Force Ones.
I pack my camera. I don't know where we are going, but regardless, I want to get pictures.
My phone dings.
Snack🍫: I'm here.
I walk outside and find her waiting in her car, on her phone.
I knock on her window, scaring her.
"Are you just going to sit here, or what?"
"Let's go. The place is only a few minutes from here."
I get into the passenger seat and she looks at me.
"Okay, you are actually looking like a WHOLE DAMN snack Lyssa." I blush at her nickname.
"Your looking pretty fine yourself." I say, brushing a piece of hair behind her ear.
"Your quite the romantic."
"It runs in my family."
"Tell me about your family."
"Well, I have a brother, who is in the Army, currently deployed in Afghanistan. I have two sisters, one is in the Navy and is in a gulf somewhere. My other sister is in the Marines and is currently in Japan. They are always bickering about which branch is better. My father was killed in the line of duty, while in Iraq, in 2010. My mom was never really involved with my life. She ended up running to Colorado with her new husband, a year ago. It's been a rollercoaster, but I'm glad all this has happend, it's really toughend me out and given me a whole new perspective on life."
"So does that mean you live on your own?"
"Yeah. I got my own apartment about seven months ago. The Academy found out and granted me a scholarship for playing and travel fees. US Soccer also helps out with my rent."
"I hate that you had to go through that. I wish I could have done something to help you."
"Po, don't worry about it. It made me who I am."
She grabs my hand from across the middle console.
"Well I care about you and I just want to let you know that I am always here for you."
"Thanks, that means a lot." I squeeze her hand.
A few minutes later, we pull up to the place. It is some resturant called Copper River.
We walk in and are instantly greeted by a smiling hostess, who leads us to a booth in a more secluded area.
We talk the entire time. We only stop when the waiter comes and takes our order.
Every word flows effortlessly. I'm not pushing myself to talk.
A song, that I recognize as 10,000 Hours by Dan and Shay comes on.
"May I have this dance?" I ask holding out my hand to Po.
She takes it and I lead her out of the booth, into an open area.
I place my hands on the small of her back and she puts her hands/forearms on my shoulders.
"You know I've always wanted to dance with my date." She says, adjusting her arms to go all the way around my neck.
"I never got a 'proper' prom, any four of my high school years. I was always busy with soccer. Usually, I was the only one at the conditionings one of my coaches always had to plan for the night of prom or homecoming."
"Dang. That's why your playing with the first team. I admire that dedication." She says, making me blush.
"Would you be okay if I kissed you?" She just nods like a little kid.
I take one of my hands off of her back and tuck a strand of loose hair behind her ear. I start to lean in and she does the same. The second our lips connect, fireworks go off. I have never felt this way.
I'm gonna love you.
