"Are you sure you don't want to go out with the team tonight?" Jane asks.
"100 percent."
"Can I stay here with you?" She asks.
"No, go and have fun!"
"Okay, whatever you say."
Jane
I just have this bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Maybe it's just the alcohol, but it seems to be deeper than that.
I decide to text Ally.
Jane: How are you doing?
I wait ten, then twenty, then thirty minutes. There is no response, she didn't even read it.
I walk up to Kealia, "K, I've gotta go."
"Okay, but you'll be missing out on some fun!" She slurs.
I run out of the club, into my car. I start it up and hit the gas.
---
I make it back to the apartment in record time.
I throw open the door and find her on the couch, sobbing. I run over to where she is.
"What's happening?"
"It-it's the t-tenth anniversary of my-my parents d-death."
That's why she's been so down lately. I knew her family was a military family, but I didn't know her parents were dead.
"What can I do to take your mind off of it?"
"Just talk to me."
I sit down and take her into my arms. "You want to know something?"
"What?" She asks.
"I love you and I want you to know that I'm here whenever you need someone to talk to, or a shoulder to cry on."
"Thank you so much Jane."
---
As Ally is cuddled up into my side, I think about how much I love her. Not platonically.
"Stop thinking so hard. You're going to pop a blood vessel." She mumbles.
"What if I was thinking about someone who is worth popping a blood vessel for?"
Her head perks up, "Spill the tea! Who is this special someone?"
"Well... she plays on the Dash. She has brown eyes-"
She cuts me off, "Kristie?"
"No! She's head over heels for Rachel! This woman is a midfielder. She went to UNC-"
"Me?"
"Ye-yeah." I studer, blushing like crazy.
"Jane. I-I feel the same." I search her eyes for any speck of uncertainty.
"Can we make sure?" I ask.
"How so?"
I tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear. I keep that hand on her cheek, slowly leaning in.
As soon as our lips meet, fireworks explode in the background. I mean quite literally, the Disney movie intro is playing on the TV.
We pull away, a bit out of breath.
"Woah." Is all she says.
"One more time?" I ask.
"How about for the rest of our lives."
