-GRACE-
"You know you shouldn't be down here."
"I know."
"We could get in a lot of trouble."
"I know."
"I could get in a lot of trouble. I could get fired. Or worse, your dad could kill me."
"I'm not going to let that happen."
"Oh, no? What are you going to do, Cece? Jump in front of a bullet for me?"
"Mmhm," I whispered as I gazed up into the pair of brown eyes that never failed to give me butterflies.
"Well I'm not going to let that happen."
"No?" I tilted my head.
"No," Jason breathed as he scanned his eyes up and down the hallways surrounding us before wrapping his arm around my waist and guiding me into the corridor that led to the staff quarters of the Knight-Holloway Estates.
A creak somewhere down the breezeway made my heart skip a beat, but Jason didn't pause to find its source as he slipped his fingers into mine and hurried me down a side hall, out a door to cross a short stretch of garden space, and then finally to the entrance of the guest house he shared with his uncle, the estate manager and head of security, Vic Martin.
Jason fiddled in his pockets for his keys before he stuck them into the lock and pushed it open.
He pressed a finger against his lips gesturing for me to stay quiet while he tiptoed over to his uncle's bedroom and peeked inside.
My heart was still racing until his shoulders slumped and he turned back to me, "We're clear. He's left for the night shift already."
A relieved smile came to my lips, "Good."
"Just good?" Jason asked as a half-smile played on his handsome face.
"What do you want me to say?" I rolled one of my ringlets around my fingertip as he crossed the floor and approached me. "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious?"
"What?" he laughed and pulled me into him.
"You've never seen Mary Poppins?" I giggled as his lips brushed against mine.
"Uh-uh," he shook his head and nestled one hand into my hair while the other locked the door back and he pressed his body into mine to guide me down the short hall where a soft light streamed from his bedroom.
"Okay, that's it. You have to come to the ice show I'm helping to choreograph. I'm playing Mary Poppins and I think I kind of look cute in my costume. I don't know though, you'll have to tell me what you think."
"I already know you're beautiful," he smiled down at me as we parted just long enough for me to sit on the bed while he unbuttoned the shirt of his uniform and tugged off his ribbed white tee before crawling up after me. The key hanging from the chain around his neck swung back and forth across the freshly-inked tattoo over his heart, G+J mau loa.
"You imagine," I trailed my fingers along his stubbled chin. "You don't know. You've never seen me."
"Okay, I imagine," he conceded. "But that's all I can do and you know it."
"Do I?"
"Yes, you do," he tilted my head upwards and kissed me breathless while his fingertips slipped underneath the light material of my dress.
"Mmm," A sigh escaped my lips as he kissed along my neck and stroked my sides before pulling my sundress over my head. I felt the cool air from the open window dance against my skin. The silver locket necklace that went with his key hung around my neck and left a trail of goosebumps across my breasts.
