The story of Christmas - Freddie

It was the night before Christmas, and no I'm not going to tell that storey. The kids know that storey off by heart so it was time to make up some stories with Freddie my husband. Our kids, Edward and Lara were sat on the sofa with us. We all had our matching pyjamas on, even the cat, Delilah, had an outfit. They all had the same snowflake print on but were different colours, Freddie had yellow, I had red, Eddie had blue, Lara had pink, and Delilah had green.

"Daddy, tell us a storey" our 7 year old boy asked

"A Christmas storey!" Lara, our 4 year old, added

"Ok, ok, this is the storey of Christmas!" Freddie did jazz hands and little Lara copied, "Do you know what Santa does every year?" He asked

"No" Both of our kids shook their heads. Eddie was leaning against me. I brushed his hair out of his face as he watched Freddie intently

"Well. He watched all the children in the world, every day, to see if they are naughty or nice" Freddie told the story with his usual hand movements

"Even me?" Eddie asked

"Oh yes, I'm sure you will be in the nice list" I said as our little boy smiled at me

"What's a nice list?" Lara questioned

"Santa has two lists. One for the naughty boys and girls who don't get presents, and one for the good boys and girls who get loads of presents" Freddie explained

"Am I on the good one too?" Lara quizzed

"I'm sure you will be" Freddie kissed her forehead

"What happens next Daddy?" Eddie asked

"Next, all the children write their letters to Santa. Just like you did a few weeks ago. Do you remember?" Freddie said

"Yes yes!" Lara nodded

"I asked for a train track" Eddie recalled

"That's right. So, Santa gets all the letters and then tells his elves to go and make the presents" Freddie explained

"What's elves?" Lara questioned curiously. Honestly, whenever she asks a question she has this cute inquisitive look on her face, just like her Daddy.

"Elves are little people who work for Santa" Freddie described

"Like Uncle Rog?" Eddie asked

Freddie began laughing his head off, "oh he's not going to live that one down" Freddie told me

"I'm pretty sure you are shorter" I said to Freddie

"Not with my heels baby" Freddie winked

"Daddy tell the storey!" Lara whined

"Alright, where was I? Ah yes. The Roger elves make the presents. They then put them on Santa's sleigh. Santa then goes and gets his reindeer -"

"And Rudolph!" Eddie interrupted

"Oh yes, Rudolph is there too" I smiled

"Then they fly off into the sky to deliver the presents to all the good children" Freddie grinned when he saw his two little ones faces turn to awe

"How does the presents get under the tree?" Eddie asked

"Well, Santa lands on our roof and comes down the chimney with all your presents!" Freddie gasped

"Yay!!" Lara clapped

"Then you wake up in the morning and find all the lovely gifts under the tree" I said

"The very perfectly decorated tree might I add" Freddie looked over at his creation. He bought all the decorations this year and did the tree all by himself while we were at work or school. I was surprised he didn't pull the tree over. When we walked home that day, Freddie looked so proud, the kids loved it too. I just giggled at how cute they all were.

"Alright kids, the quicker you go to bed, the quicker it's Christmas" I said

With that, both children trundled up the stairs and into bed. Me and Freddie did our goodnight rounds before going to bed ourselves.

"I can't wait for tomorrow" Freddie said as he slipped under the covers with me

"Yeah, I can't wait to see their reaction to the presents" I smiled, imagining their happy faces

"Goodnight Lady Mercury" Freddie kissed me, his stubble ticking me slightly

"Goodnight my love" I caressed his cheek with my thumb before cuddling down for the night.
