Christmas Lights and Coffee - John

The Christmas lights in town were being turned on today. That means there are going to be loads of happy families around to watch the big event. I liked to watch the gleeful parents and excitable children, it makes me feel less lonely. Christmas time is supposed to be about family, but I've never had that. I'll take part in all the festivities, but I'm still missing something huge in my life - somebody to love.

True to form, the winter evening was especially cold for the event. I was wrapped up in as many layers as I could put on without looking like an Eskimo and I was still cold. The merciless wind snapped through the market place. I decided to take cover in the doorway of a shut down shop to shelter me from the wind.

"Mind if I join?" A voice suddenly asked

"I don't mind at all" I smiled

"Got to keep out of the cold" He grinned

"Yeah, I'm so cold but I wanted to see the lights" I explained

"Fair enough. I come down every year, always alone but that doesn't matter" he went off on a bit of a ramble

"Me too" I mumbled quietly

When I looked at the man he seems to be around my age. Mature, maybe in his late 30's? He had a bit of stubble on his face, which I quite liked. His smile stood out to me the most, when he cracked a smile his whole face lit up.

The winter weather was starting to get the better of me. I was shaking like a leaf and my skin was stone cold no matter how many layers I had on.

"Are you ok?" The sweet man asked

"Just cold" I nodded

"Here, huddle up" He put his arms out. I was reluctant at first but I couldn't keep shivering like I was, I decided to huddle up to the mystery man

"What's your name?" I questioned as my head was leaning on his shoulder

"My name is John Richard Deacon" he stated proudly

"I'm y/n" I said

"Nice to meet you y/n" he said in a low voice

"And you" I smiled contently

The big countdown began for the lights to be turned on...

The lights lit up the whole market place in every colour imaginable.

"Wow" John awed

I looked up at the man and saw, for the first time tonight, the colour of his eyes. They were an enchanting mix of blue and green.

"Wow indeed" I said before I shivered again in his arms

"How about we go and get a drink? A coffee might warm you up" He smiled

"That would be great" I smiled back

"Let's go" he held his arm out and I linked my own with his. He was such a gentleman with a kind nature.

John lead me to a coffee shop in the middle of town. I had never even noticed it before and it looked really good.

"This place looks great" I looked around at the cute Christmas decorations

"It really is. Pick what you want, my treat" John showed me the board of different coffees

"Thank you very much, I'll just have a latte please" I said politely

"Why don't you go and find a place to sit while I get these" John grinned

"Alright, I'll be down there" I pointed to the back of the shop

It wasn't long until John found me at the back of the shop with two piping hot mugs in his hands.

"Here you go" He places mine in front of me

"Mmm thank you" I put my frozen hands on the warm cup

"I hope this isn't the last time I see you" John looked up from his mug as he took a swig

I suddenly blushed and cane over all shy. For god's sake, I'm an adult! Why am I acting like this is a teen crush?

"I would love to see you again too" I blushed a a deeper shade of pink
