The Field

"Play a game," the voices scream, another innocent victim.
From the field of the pure, I went and picked him.
I was kind and I was vulnerable, I was someone he loved.
Little did he know I was someone he would never touch.

Sweet and daring, all part of the ruse.
Manipulative and devilish, with intent to confuse.
I can't do this, I have to tell the truth.
"Play with him longer, don't stop the abuse"

"Don't disobey a direct order, or I promise you'll regret"
"He'll leave you just like they all did, you're someone he'll forget"

But he's different, and he's kind, he's someone who is loyal
"When you put a gun to his head, watch out for the recoil"

I can't do it anymore, he's broken and he's exhausted.
I know if I leave him now, he'll be forever haunted.
"Soak up his despair, thrive on his misery,
Remember what happens when you disobey me"

He lost a game he didn't know he was playing
Like a serpent beneath the surface, I was always preying
A broken boy, left distraught and bitter.
I loaded the gun, but it was he who pulled the trigger

My most successful story, the most tragic of my casualties.
Another pure soul that has been plucked from humanity.
"Do it again, hunt for another meal"
"We're hungry for chaos, return to the field"
