I knew that the first day of high school was supposed to be terrifying. But I had no idea it would be this terrifying.
Everyone else here seems so much more confident in themselves, like they know what they are doing.
I have gone to school with half of these people for years, but something about being in this building is just so different.
It also probably does not help that I am no good with directions and I have thirty seconds to find my second class of the day.
Eventually, I make it to my class, English, I am almost a minute late, but I make it.
Not recognizing most of the faces, and not being friends with any of them, I make my way to the back of the room and find an empty seat.
After a few minutes more people fill the room and she decides to start the class.
"Alright, everyone stand up, bring your things and come to the front of the class!" She announces to us. Assigned seats, already? It has been three minutes and forty-two seconds and we are already getting assigned seats? "Anthony" She says, pointing to a desk. "Bennet" She says pointing to the desk right next to it.
Quickly, two girls fill the seats, causing me to realize she is going by last name, in alphabetical order.
And that means it is already almost to me.
"Carter" She says, going to the pair of desks behind the girls. "Collins" she says.
Immediately I take my seat next to a boy.
'Davis, Edwards, Evans, George, Hall, Hernandez " She continues, but at the point I tune her out.
I just sit in silence next to this boy that I have never seen before.
His hair is rather short, and is as dark as his eyes, his skin rather dark as well. From the few moments he was standing I already know he is tall, much taller than I am at least. He looks friendly upon first glance, and he's cute.
"Okay, today is just going to be getting to know your partners, and by that I mean the print shop messed up my syllabus copies, so they will not be here until tomorrow. But you will be working a great deal with the person sitting next to you this year. So, talk, get to know each other a bit, and do not just sit on your phones for the next forty minutes." She says.
At that, I am left to talk to this boy for more minutes than my unstable mind can possibly take.
"Hi, I am Massi." He tells me.
"Chloe" I reply.
For the next forty minutes Massi and I talk.
We have so many common interests, he is actually easy to talk to, he is super nice, and funny too.
Maybe freshman year will be more bearable than I expected.
Hello everyone! Welcome to my newest work!
I finished writing this about a week ago, it's been in the works for a few months now.
I was going to wait until I finished posting my other book to start with this one, but that will be a few months away and I think now is the best time to post this with what is going on in the world.
I am posting this days after a bunch of protest marches due to the George Floyd incident.
The fact that racism still exists in the world is absolutely heartbreaking to me.
This book is all about racism and the challenges of an interracial couple, so I hope you enjoy!
Also, the name Massi is based on my good friend Massiah, and it is pronounced, like Messiah/Massiah, without the 'uh' so like muh-sigh, if that makes any sense.
