Locking the door Lexi headed down the path, already feeling guilty at leaving Lucy behind, but she didn't know the area enough to feel happy with leaving her waiting outside shops just yet.. As she walked down the street she saw the delivery vans lining the street as the weekly stock was delivered. The smell from the bakery was overwhelming as she opened the door and stepped inside.

Picking up a loaf from the shelf, she quickly paid at the till and picked up a small cake to have with her tea that afternoon.

Flyers were posted in each window detailing the Halloween dates, each shop taking on their own role in the organization. The bakers were running a fancy-dress competition for the local children and a coloring competition at the school. Smiling Lexi remembered her school days of apple bobbing and fancy dress. Bin bags made into dresses and face paint smothered over faces to look like witches, everything had been so much simpler back then.

Passing the pub as she headed back up the hill she noticed a flyer advertising the Halloween party being held there the following weekend. She would keep this in mind when she put together the plan for the girls visit. She had only been in once before to eat, when her sister had visited helping her move in. The beautiful open fire and old wooden beams were perfect for an old country pub.

Setting back towards the house she saw a figure dart across the road from the shop and dive into a waiting car, before it quickly sped away. As the car passed she could see the outline of a man as it passed through the dark glass of the windows. It made her shiver as it was like he was staring straight at her.

Head down against the sudden gust of wind, she hurried up the rest of the way to her house.

As Gary had dived back across the road from the shop he had noticed a woman walking down the road looking into the windows as she passed. Recognizing her from the day before he had looked out the window as they drove by, finally getting to see her face in the daylight. She had looked up just as car passed, squinting through the window as if she could see him through the tinted glass.

Heading to a meeting with the band, he looked forward to some company, he had spent too much time on his own since they got back.
