The Pain is Still Here

I woke up to a cloudy day and an anxious feeling in my stomach. Mom made a big breakfast, but I wasn't that hungry, so I just ate one piece of toast and went back upstairs to put on some makeup. When I got back downstairs, mom caught me right before leaving. "Sydney, are you okay"? I turned around to face her. "I'm fine mom, really. I just wasn't hungry this morning." "You don't look 'fine' sweetie." She got up and felt my forehead, but I pulled away. "See? No fever" I said, putting my hand on my forehead too. "Is there something going on at school"? "No, nothing. Look mom, I need to get going. Kate and I were planning to meet up early today." "For what"? "Just for some alone time". "Sydney, if there's something going on, you know you can tell us." "And if a problem comes up, I will. Now I really need to go! I'll see you later"! When I finally got to school, the only thing I told my mom was true. I was meeting up with Kate for alone time, but to get all my troubles off my shoulders.

"Took you long enough, what happened"? "My parents got worried, I think they're on to me". "Maybe you should just tell them, they can help." "That will give Rebecca the upper hand". "No it won't, the only reason she's getting away with bullying you is because no one is trying to stop her. If we can get her in the office, she will be punished, I guarantee it." "But will she stop after the punishments are over"? "The more often she makes the same mistake, the dumber she looks to the other kids." Kate put her hand on my shoulder and smiled, I smiled back. As we walked down the hall, Javier found us. "Hey there muchachas." "Javier, thank goodness we ran into you. Would you please tell your friend Sydney that if we get Rebecca in trouble for the bullying that she will look bad to the others"? "Not only do I agree with you Kate, but Sydney, I can even help with this because she has a crush on me. I can trick her." "If you're saying your plan out loud, you may want to keep it down, there are hundreds of kids everywhere." Kate warned. "But no Rebecca." Right after, we heard her approach us. "You talking about me again Javy"? "Rebecca, how many times am I going to say this? I don't like being called 'Javy'"! "Sorry boo. What are you doing with the freak and the nerd"? Javier turned to Rebecca face to face. "Don't talk about my friends that way, okay"? "Whatever you say my teddy bear". She tapped his nose and walked away. "She makes me sick". Kate said, sounding agitated. "Me too". After Javier went to his locker, Kate accompanied me to mine and I did the same for her. We headed to first hour together and sat down at our desks.

Mr. Roberts started the day by having us read "The Scarlet Letter". He gave us a bunch of handouts such as a list of characters and telling us to put the number of the first page the character is mentioned. He asked us to take notes on each chapter and answer questions about the chapter. There will be a quiz on each chapter and the quizzes will be open notes, but not open book. Great. I hate it when we can't use our books on quizzes like these because we don't know what the questions will be asking so we don't really know what to take notes on. Our first chemistry quiz isn't for another two weeks and I'm okay with that. During lunch, I had a hard time finding Kate and Javier. I ended up running into Rebecca first. "Hi Sydney, how'd you make your tears invisible? I bet cry babies have the ability to hide their tears, do they not"? I turned around and let one tear fall, but Rebecca saw it. "Aww, there they are. Hey everyone! Sydney is burst into tears! I knew I could break this girl"! A few kids around me started laughing, but when I looked around and saw that the only kids laughing were Rebecca's friends. Even though hardly anyone else seemed to notice her, it still hurt my feelings, so I shoved past her and kept going. I put my tray down and saw that I got a text from both Kate and Javier. Kate left school early for an appointment and Javier had a football meeting. Great, just what I needed. I texted both of them about what happened with Rebecca. Kate said not to let her get to me and Javier said he'll give her a piece of his mind. The day dragged on and on. As I was walking to my car, I ran into Rebecca one more time. I began to think she was following me. "Cry baby cry! Cry baby cry! Cry baby cry!" She kept chanting that until I couldn't hear it. I saw a bunch of kids laughing and this was more than just her friends. When I got home, I went straight to my room to complete my homework. When I was done, mom got home from work. I was so depressed from Allen's absence and Rebecca's taunting that I really wanted to take Kate's advice and tell my parents about this, but that would only give her another reason to bully me. So I kept to myself. Closer to five, mom started making dinner. After dad got home, we ate. Once again, I barely ate. I could tell my parents were worried about me because I heard them whispering after I left the table. I spent the rest of the night in my room watching TV until I fell asleep.
